The face of the generation is like the face of a dog
The Talmud in both Sotah and Sanhedrin says that in the times leading up to the Messiah's arrival, the generation's face will be like that of a dog. The (real) rabbis explain that when one walks a dog, the dog seems to run ahead, but constantly turns around to make sure that the 'master' is following. So is the dog leading the 'master' or is the 'master' leading the dog? In reality, the 'master' is leading the dog, even though the dog gives the illusion that the opposite is the case. The dog symbolizes the Jewish communal leadership; the 'master' symbolizes the Jewish public at large.
I wonder if even the rabbis envisioned a situation where the dog would do a better job of leading.
Syrians are starving to death, but no one cares because there is no way to blame the Jews. That's the only conclusion I can draw from this report, which says that a fatwa has been issued that allows starving Syrians to eat cats and dogs.
As Muslims around the world mark the Eid al-Adha holiday, sharing
festive meals, children trapped in besieged areas around the Syrian
capital are going hungry, activists and medics say.
In some
areas children have died from severe malnutrition, according to one NGO,
and a cleric told AFP he had issued a religious ruling allowing the
eating of dog and cat meat.

Speaking to AFP on the eve of Eid, a cleric in southern Damascus said a
man in his area recently ate dog meat out of desperation.
“We
issued a religious edict allowing people to eat dog and cat meat. Not
because it is religiously permitted, but because it is a reflection of
the reality we are suffering,” said Sheikh Saleh al-Khatib, who has been
on hunger strike for nine days.
“People here have nothing for their children. I am on strike because I want to help save food for others.”
“How does the world sleep with full stomachs while there are hungry
people, and not far from the main city [Damascus],” said a leading imam
originally broadcasted by the Southern Damascus Media Office.
The Imam went on to say that while Muslims were busy on the pilgrimage (hajj) to Mecca, “there are people who died from hunger.”
“Haven’t
you heard the fatwas that have filled our streets and mosques by
permitting people to eat cats, dogs and other animals that have already
been killed by the bomb attacks?” he said according to the report.
He added, “Are you waiting for us to eat the flesh of our martyrs and our dead after fearing our lives?”
A
fatwa permitting the eating of cats, dogs, and donkeys was also issued
by an imam in the Palestinian Yarmouk refugee camp in southern Damascus,
which has been under siege, according to a report in the London-based
daily Asharq Al-Awsat on Sunday.
Maybe President Obama can at least send them some recipes. He's not sending anything else.
I'm sure that many of you have already heard that Bo, the first dog, was flown to join the Obama family on Martha's Vineyard in his own MV-22 Osprey helicopter on Monday. The Osprey takes off like a helicopter but flies like a jet. How much did it cost the Obama'sthe American taxpayer? Does Bo deserve such fancy transportation during a time of economic belt-tightening? Of course he does.
While
some might consider using a $69.3 million aircraft to transport a dog a
bit extravagant, it must be pointed out that this was paid for with
taxpayer money, not from the First Family's accounts. Neither President
nor Mrs. Obama are spendthrifts and are very careful with the family's
budget.
It is important that Bo accompany the First Family on
this vacation, which the President surely deserves after all the hard
work he has put in over the past few days. The president recently
returned from a tortuous tour of speech-making, some of which were
delivered in benighted flyover places like Tennessee.
He has
been working hard to live up to the promise that “as long as I have the
privilege of serving as your President, I’ll spend every minute of every
day I have left in this office doing everything I can to build that
better bargain for the middle class and make this country a place where
everyone who works hard can get ahead.” He deserves some time off after a
speech like that, don't you think?
That's where Bo comes in.
After all, what's a week in a $7.9 million, 5,000 square foot mansion
without your best buddy to romp and play with across the nine acre
estate? And besides, Bo might get lonely with just the White House Staff
to feed him and care for him during the eight day vacation. Nobody
wants Bo to be sad, do they?
Aren't you glad that Obama can't run for reelection? The truth is that you shouldn't be. If he could run again for reelection, he wouldn't be spending your tax dollars quite so quickly - he'd be afraid that you wouldn't vote for him. On the other hand, given that he played 100 rounds of golf during his first term, maybe he wouldn't be afraid you wouldn't vote for him. Barack Hussein Obama has figured out that he can play the American people for fools.
At least 150 wild dogs, many running in feral packs, have for months been roaming the streets of the Ras Hamis neighborhood, at the edge of Shuafat, itself a village within the municipal boundaries of Jerusalem.
The city has a full staff of dog catchers, but because of security concerns, a municipal spokesperson told reporters, they could only be sent in to do their jobs with an IDF or police crew to protect them, because of the strong likelihood that they will be pelted with stones or beaten with metal pipes – or worse – as has occurred on numerous occasions in the past.
As a result, residents of the neighborhood say they have taken to arming themselves with bricks and pipes to fight off the dog menace. The dogs, say the residents, are particularly vicious, and have chased and attacked many people, especially the elderly and children, who have a hard time outrunning them.
Attorney Nasrian Alian from the Israel Civil Rights Association said that the problem was present in all Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. “In 2010 over 1,000 dogs were caught in Arab neighborhoods of Jerusalem. The city's Veterinary Service does not provide sufficient services for the neighborhood and does not even operate in some of them – and they fail to do the job properly in areas where they do operate,” she told reporters.
In response, the municipality said that the IDF no longer permits municipal workers to enter some Arab neighborhoods without a security detail to protect them. Shuafat is one of those neighborhoods, the city said.
Attacks on Israeli workers in Jerusalem Arab neighborhoods are not uncommon, and numerous workers have been badly injured when Arabs converged on them as they tried to undertake maintenance work in Arab areas.
If they can't be civil, let them deal with - or go to - the dogs all by themselves.

In Baghdad on Monday, security found dogs with explosives implanted inside them about to be loaded onto a plane to the United States.
