NGO report ties Oxfam to designated terror organization

A newly-released report by Shurat HaDin, an Israeli non-governmental organization (NGO), accuses Oxfam, a British NGO that is supported by a number of sovereign governments around the world, of having ties with the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, which has been designated a terror organization in the United States, Britain and the European Union. Oxfam loudly fired actress Scarlett Johansson as their spokesperson in January after Johansson took a position as spokesperson for SodaStream, an Israeli company that maintains a factory in Maaleh Adumim, which is in Judea.
For both political and propaganda reasons, many terrorist organizations like Hezbollah and Hamas have operated social service branches since their inception. The PFLP has done the same for decades.

Oxfam has strong connections to two of these organizations: The Union of Health Workers Committees (UHWC), which provides medical services; and the Union of Agricultural Workers Committees (UAWC), which deals with land ownership and agricultural issues. The UHWC and the UAWC deny any connections to the PFLP. In the past, however, both have acknowledged that they were founded as part of the PFLP and share personnel with the terrorist group. There is, we believe, conclusive evidence that they remain branches of their parent organization, despite attempts to conceal these ties.

Oxfam’s connections to UHWC and UAWC have been publicly acknowledged by the NGO. Oxfam has described both groups as “partners” in its activities in both Gaza and the West Bank, and proudly stated that Oxfam works “very closely” with them. This closeness was recently reaffirmed by the signing of a new agreement under which Oxfam pledged to continue funding the UHWC. Oxfam has also issued many press releases and calls for action that endorse both groups and even solicit publicity for them.

A press release issued in 2008, for example, cited “Al-Awda hospital in Jabaliya, run by Oxfam’s partner, the Union of Health Work Committees” (emphasis ours). More recently, a 2012 “media advisory” regarding health issues in Gaza stated, “Oxfam’s partner UAWC is working to get emergency assistance to those most at risk. UAWC is available for interviews in English” (emphasis ours).

...

The group acknowledges 17 individual branches, coordinated by the organization’s International Secretariat. Its branches “are based in: Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong, Ireland, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Quebec, Spain and the United States” as well as “advocacy offices” in “Brussels, Geneva, New York, Washington DC and Brasilia.”

Since 1942, Oxfam has risen from a small, single-issue organization to one of the largest, wealthiest, and most influential NGOs in the world. According to its 2013 annual report , Oxfam enjoyed revenues last year of almost a billion Euros, the lion’s share of which comes from “institutional fundraising,” the UN, the EU, and other governments. Although it bills itself as a charity and often requests personal donations , only 40 percent of its revenue comes from “public fundraising.”

...

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine is a Palestinian nationalist organization based on communist ideology. It has engaged in terrorism since its inception. Formed in 1967 following the Six Day War, it quickly became one of the largest parties in the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), and has attracted both violently militant terrorists and a strong intellectual following among both Arabs and the European extreme Left. Throughout its history, it has consistently rejected Israel’s right to exist and advocated its replacement with an Arab state. Although it has sporadically supported negotiations with Israel, it currently opposes talks or a peace agreement between Israelis and Palestinians.

I'm shocked.... Just totally shocked.... (NOT).

By the way, I had forgotten, but Scarlett Johansson was not the first spokesperson fired by Oxfam for ties to a company in Israel. That honor goes to Sex in the City's Kirstin Davis.

And the picture at the top of this post? It's an Oxfam billboard from the baggage claim area at Reagan National Airport in Washington DC. Haven't been there recently, but a friend snapped the picture last week.

Oxfam accused of supporting 'Palestinian' terror organization

Israeli NGO Shurat HaDin has accused Oxfam of donating money to organizations that support the Popular Front for the Liberation of 'Palestine,' a terrorist organization.
The letter alleges that Oxfam “provides financial aid and additional forms of material support to the Union of Health Workers Committees (UHWC) and the Union of Agricultural Workers Committees (UAWC), instrumentalities of the terrorist Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority.”
The PFLP has been associated with major terrorist attacks dating back to the 1972 Lod Airport massacre, the assassination of then-tourism minister Rehavam Ze’evi in 2001, and – according to a report obtained by The Jerusalem Post from an expert on terrorism – rocket attacks during former prime minister Ariel Sharon’s funeral and other recent attacks.
The letter notes that “Oxfam readily acknowledges it works very closely with these two Palestinian groups” – which it says were created and are subsidized by the PFLP – and “provides them financial support.”
“Your organization has described them as your ‘partners’ in the numerous press communications and reports you have published. Indeed, last month you signed a new agreement with the UHWC to provide it further financial support,” said Shurat Hadin.
Oxfam’s office in England said it had not yet received the letter, but referred the Post to a statement by Australia’s Foreign Ministry in May 2012 which rejected what appeared to be similar allegations by Shurat Hadin regarding the UAWC. The statement said that the UAWC was registered in Israel and not declared illegal in Israel.
The Australian statement also said that no offense was identified and named several European countries and Japan as supporting the UAWC.
...
The letter notes that the EU has designated the PFLP as a terrorist organization and that, “Article 3 of the EU Common Position prohibits the making available of, directly or indirectly, funds, financial assets or economic resources or other related services to or for the benefit of the listed terrorist entities.”
Turning to US law, the letter says that the PFLP is officially designated a “Foreign Terrorist Organization,” pursuant to section 219 of the US Immigration and Nationality Act and other legal provisions.
According to Shurat Hadin, under a 2010 US Supreme Court case, Holder v. Humanitarian Law Project, “any assistance or support to designated terrorist groups, include putatively benign forms of assistance (such as agricultural aid) is criminal.”

Sick: Paris suburb makes Ze'evi assassin an honorary citizen

If anyone still needed proof that anti-Semitism is way too acceptable in France, you now have it. A Paris suburb has made the assassin of Israeli tourism minister Rechavam Ze'evi HY"D (May God Avenge his blood) an honorary citizen.
Bezons awarded the title last month to Majdi Al-Rimawi, according to the March edition of its official newsletter, Bezons Infos. The motion to recognize Rimawi passed unanimously at a special council vote of the municipality, which is northwest of Paris and nearly eight miles from the city's center.
“He is imprisoned for more than 10 years in an Israeli prison. His crime? Defending his city and its inhabitants, calling for the application of international law for the establishment of Palestine in the 1967 borders as recognized by the United Nations and Jerusalem as its capital. For this he was sentenced in 2002 [sic] to life in prison… More than 80 years!” proclaims the newsletter article.
The article does not mention the 2008 conviction of Rimawi, a member of the terrorist organization Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, for the murder of Ze’evi in Jerusalem in 2001. Rimawi was one of four shooters who waited for Ze’evi, Israel's minister of tourism, outside a hotel in Jerusalem.
Bezons Mayor Dominique Lesparre was quoted as calling the vote to honor Rimawi “a strong political act.”
The inscription on the plaque prepared by Bezons, which has a population of approximately 28,000, referred to Al-Rimawi as a "political prisoner," according to Palestinian Media Watch.
The real question here is why al-Rimawi hasn't had a little 'accident' in prison yet....

Israel closes Hamas and PFLP offices in Jerusalem

Maan reports that Israeli police have closed down offices of Hamas and the Popular Front for the Liberation of 'Palestine' in Jerusalem.
"The Israeli police closed down two offices... that were suspected of being used by the Hamas and the PFLP," police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told AFP.

The office which was allegedly being used by Hamas was in the northern Dahiyat al-Barid neighborhood, while the premises being used by the PFLP were located in Shufat, police said.

But Khaled Zabarqa, who runs Jerusalem for Development, a local housing association which is based in the Dahiyat al-Barid office, said he was "surprised" by the move and denied the organization had any ties with Hamas.

"We have no links to Hamas. We are a development institution which closes the (social) gaps left by the (Jerusalem) municipality in the Arab sector, which carries out renovations and helps families," he told AFP, saying the organization was seeking legal redress over the closure.

"We are operating in accordance with the law."
Right....

No, that's not the office at the top of this post. That's Orient House, where Fatah had its (illegal under Oslo) Jerusalem headquarters until a few hours after the Sbarro terror attack.

Shin Bet cracks massive 'Palestinian' terror cell

The Shin Bet has cracked a massive 'Palestinian' terror cell in the Jerusalem area which was being run on behalf of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) have arrested close to two dozen Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) operatives who were running a number of terror cells near Jerusalem and were planning to kidnap soldiers and perpetrate other terror attacks against Israel, it was released for publication on Sunday.

Some of the operatives, the Shin Bet said, were Arabs from east Jerusalem in possession of Israeli identity cards enabling them to travel freely throughout the country.

Over 20 suspects have been arrested in recent weeks, the Shin Bet said, including a number who have significant military experience and have previously served time in Israeli prisons. One of the alleged leaders of the group was Nasser Abu-Khadir, a 50-year-old resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in Jerusalem.

In 1981, Khadir was seriously injured when an explosive device he was building blew up in his hands. In 1988, he was released from prison and continued to engage in anti-Israel terrorist activity, for which he was arrested a number of additional times over the years.

The Shin Bet said that Khadir told his interrogators that he was responsible for establishing the terrorist infrastructure based in Jerusalem and Ramallah and was in touch with PFLP leadership in Damascus, which was supposed to provide financial and logistical assistance as well as overseas military training for Israel-based operatives.

Khadir allegedly instructed other members of the cells to purchase pistols and silencers and surrendered a weapon that he had already obtained following his arrest.
Isn't it odd that the 'Palestinian police' (the Dayton Forces) had no clue that this cell existed? And they want Israel to turn 'east' Jerusalem and Ramallah into 'Palestine.' What could go wrong?

Sweden rolls out the welcome mat for a terrorist

The taxpayers of Sweden have just funded a visit to their country of 'Palestinian' terrorist Leila Khaled.
In 2002, in the wake of the 9/11 attacks, The European Union through its European Council decided to include the PFLP on its list of terrorist groups.

The people of Israel are all too familiar with the savagery of the PFLP. It took responsibility for the 2001 assassination of Tourism Minister, Rehavam Zeevi. On Friday night, March 11th 2011, two PFLP members butchered the Fogel family in Itamar, including four-and eleven-year-old children and a three-month infant.

Ms. Khaled sits on the PFLP Central Committee and has not expressed regret for her involvement in terrorism. Because of her history of aiding and abetting terrorism, a police complaint was recently issued against her in Sweden for gross violations of international law.

But that came too late. During her tax-payer funded visit to Sweden, Khaled spoke at the May Day demonstrations of the Stalinist Swedish Communist Party and the Anarcho-syndicalist Trade Union Federation. She held publicly funded lectures at an Art Gallery and spoke on developments in the Middle East at the publicly- funded Södertörn University College.

Incredibly, Khaled also participated at a seminar on political activism arranged by the Left Party represented in Sweden’s Parliament.

The organizers of her appearances had nothing but praise for the PFLP leader. Anna Ahlstrand, Project Manager at Konsthall C, which is funded by the government’s Arts Grant Committee, declared “she is an icon for many people”. Jonatan Habib Engqvist, Project Manager at the Governmental Arts Grants Committee that financed her tour described the arch terrorist as “a very established feminist thinker.”

...

Unfortunately, Leila Khaled isn’t the first member of a Palestinian terrorist group to get special treatment from Stockholm. In 2006, the Swedish consulate in Jerusalem, in contravention of EU regulations, granted a Schengen visa to Hamas’ Minister of Refugees, Atef Adwan. Such a visa makes it possible for the bearer to travel across 15 European Countries. That decision provoked protests from Israel, which said it lent legitimacy to Hamas, and from France, which had rejected earlier visa requests by Hamas leaders.

So far Sweden’s decision to grant entry to Khaled – a leading representative of an organization deemed a terrorist group by more than 30 countries, including Sweden, all EU Member States and the United States – hasn’t spurred protest from the US or other European countries.

But the decision to allow her into Sweden could have broader consequences. It comes at a time when many European nations want to take back direct control of their national frontiers. Indeed, the European Commission is currently debating the re-imposition of border controls within the so-called Schengen region.

Leila Khalid’s taxpayer-funded trip comes even as Swedish authorities continue to turn a deaf ear to repeated calls from the Jewish Community and the Simon Wiesenthal Center to fund security for Jewish institutions facing increasing anti-Semitism and global Islamist threats.

The irresponsible behavior of Swedish authorities will likely doom any future role in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations. Back in 2000, following a more even-handed Middle East policy under then Swedish PM Goran Persson, Stockholm did help facilitate Israeli Palestinian negotiations.
I doubt that anyone in Israel would accept a mediation - or any other - role for the current Swedish government in Middle East 'peace process.' We already know too well where the Swedes stand. But Khaled's visit is yet another nail in the coffin of Swedish-Israeli relations.

More on Khaled here.

'Human Rights Watch' appoints PFLP terrorist to its Middle East advisory board

Just when you thought that 'Human Rights Watch' could not possibly sink any lower... they appointed a terrorist to their Middle East advisory board.
Signaling the continuing decline of the organization, Human Rights Watch (HRW) has appointed Shawan Jabarin, an alleged senior activist in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) terrorist organization, to its Middle East Advisory Board. This appointment, as first reported in the Daily Beast, is further evidence of the moral collapse and corruption in HRW, says Jerusalem-based NGO Monitor, a research institution that tracks NGOs.

"This appointment ends any façade that Human Rights Watch is a moral 'watchdog' organization," says Prof. Gerald Steinberg, president of NGO Monitor. "Mr. Jabarin has ties to the PFLP terror group, which specialized in aircraft hijackings and carries out suicide bombings and political assassinations. He also heads an organization, Al Haq, which is among the leaders of delegitimization campaigns targeting Israel. This appointment is a slap in the face from HRW Executive Director Ken Roth and Chairman James Hoge to terror victims, Israelis, Jews, and others who seek to uphold universal human rights."

With this appointment, HRW blatantly disregards decisions by the Israeli Supreme Court and other countries that have affirmed Jabarin's terror links. Jordan also has denied him exit visas because of his alleged ties to the PFLP.

As reported by NGO Monitor, the Israeli Supreme Court in June 2007 referred to Jabarin as a "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," a human rights worker by day and a terrorist by night. In 2008, the Supreme Court upheld a visa denial because of his terror connections.

"By appointing Jabarin, HRW has contemptuously dismissed the widely respected Israeli Supreme Court" Steinberg adds. "The assault on the courts is a key component of the strategy of demonizing Israel, as developed at the NGO Forum of the 2001 Durban Conference. HRW played a central role in Durban, and this is another step in the organization's implementation of this strategy."
