More 'credit' than she deserves?
On the 15th anniversary of Israel's flight from southern Lebanon, Arutz Sheva discusses the role of former radio broadcaster and current Labor party
MK Shelley Yachimovitch in bringing about the order to surrender.
Yechimovich, who grew up in a communist household and admitted to
having voted for the communist party in at least one national election,
started her journalistic career as a reporter for now defunct radical
socialist newspaper Al Hamishmar.
She ascended to dominance as an activistic journalist who became
known as a leading spokesperson for radical feminism – a creed also
referred to as genderism, and defined by neo-conservative Professor Ruth
Wisse as “if not the most extreme then certainly the most influential
neo-Marxist movement in America” – which was imported into Israel in the
1970s and 80s.
Yechimovich's genius was the framing of demands for withdrawal from
the IDF's self-styled security belt in Lebanon as products of a
"feminine wisdom" that was lost upon Israel's “macho” decision-makers.
By doing so, she brought the considerable power of Israel's genderist
journalists into play, and these were joined by male journalists, too,
in a uniform chorus clamoring for a swift retreat.
Another editor in Kol Yisrael's newsroom, Dr. Hanan Naveh, would later disclose in a public speech that three editors in Kol Yisrael's
newsroom had decided to bring about the withdrawal of the IDF from
Lebanon. He mentioned Yechimovich and her colleague, Military Affairs
Reporter Carmela Menashe, as spearheading the effort. Naveh made clear
that Kol Yisrael amplified reports on casualties and setbacks
suffered by the IDF in southern Lebanon. This reporting sapped public
support for the war effort.
Through near-daily interviews, Yechimovich and Menashe succeeded in
turning a tiny group of four peaceniks from northern kibbutzim – the
Four Mothers – into a hugely influential movement. This campaign began
in 1997 and kept going until the withdrawal from Lebanon.
Israel Radio has behaved in this manner regarding other issues. It's no secret that Israel's government-funded broadcast media is particularly Leftist. For that matter, so are
other parts of the Israeli media. And while Yachmiovich gets a lot of 'credit' for keeping the 'Four Mothers' campaign in the news, she's
far from the only one at fault.
At the end of the day, Israel's media makes the news rather than reporting on it and displays an extreme left-wing bias. While Yachimovich was guilty of giving the Four Mothers far more exposure than they deserved, she was far from the only one at fault. Many others had the opportunity to stop the bias or to give alternative explanations an opportunity to be heard.

A left-wing Moshavnik from Netiv HaAsara on the Gaza border tells Israel Radio
why we should give the 'Palestinians' whatever they want.
In a live interview broadcast this morning on Israel Radio Reshet Bet, Roni
Keidar, resident of Netiv HaAsara, a moshav that borders on the northern
edge of the Gaza Strip and has been subject to intensive attacks, explained
that Israel should give the Palestinians what they want.
Keidar, who is a member of Other Voice, gave as her proof that Israel
should follow her policy recommendation the fact that she engages in
dialogue with a woman in Gaza in English who also seeks peace. Keidar even
meets this woman periodically when she accompanies a relative to Israel for
monthly medical treatment.
"The two sides each have to share rather than take the position that
everything is theirs." Keidar noted.
Keidar, who was being interviewed from Eilat where she was taking a break
from the ongoing attacks on her home from Gaza, explained that while she is
free to express her views in Israel, her Palestinian friend has to keep her
views about peace and reconciliation to herself as it would be "life
threatening" for her Palestinian friend if her Palestinian friend's
neighbors were to find out her views.
The reporter declined to ask Keidar to address the disconnect between her
policy recommendation that Israel give the Palestinians what they want with
her belief that Palestinian society would murder an innocent Palestinian
only because they advocate peace and reconciliation with Israel.
And you were wondering how anyone in the Gaza envelope could be a Leftist....

Meanwhile, Channel 1 news anchor Oren Nahari, who on Tuesday night
released a transcript of the phone call between Obama and Netanyahu from Sunday, is
sticking to his story.
Oren Nahari explained tonight on Israel Television Mabat News that the American source of the Netanyahu-Obama conversation he reported last night was the source of the warning that President Obama would act if 1,000 die in Gaza.
Nahari insists that the report of the Netanyahu-Obama conversation is correct.
Here's the radio report from July 19 claiming that Obama would insist on an immediate cease fire if casualties in Gaza reached 1,000. A transcript in English follows. The report is seemingly correct. Nahari was the reporter who made the report.

Israel Radio broadcaster blasted for saying there won't be peace
Israel Television and Radio reporter Oded Shachar opened his Hakol
Diburim program on 21.7.2014 on Israel Radio Reshet Bet with a short
commentary that there will never be peace. As I have noted in the past, Israel Radio is extremely Leftist. Later in the program he read
the angry responses received by the station. Responding to the
critics, Shachar says he would be willing to give up even on access to
the Western Wall if that's what it took to have peace - but nothing will
get Israel peace.

As I have related many times on this blog, seven years or so ago, I heard David Horovitz speak at a synagogue
outside Boston. After the program ended, I went up and introduced
myself. He was already familiar with my blog. I told him that I had no
hope that there would ever be peace with the 'Palestinians.' He told me
that he could not live in Israel if he felt like I feel. I wonder if David and other moderates like him are still hopeful, and what they will do about it if they are not.

There's a lot of anger at the United States in Israel this morning, because the Obama administration has once again
told the world that Israel is responsible for a strike on Syrian weapons being transferred to Hezbullah. This is Israel Radio's Aryeh Golan, the anchor of the drive time news hour. The tape is in Hebrew but there's an English translation.

Moronic: Israel Radio observes moment of silence to identify with Maariv and Haaretz journalists
My father used to quip that in Israel, it was always the case that half the country is on strike, while the other half is watching. That has proven true again today.
Israel Radio started its 5:00 pm news with a moment of silence 'as a sign of solidarity' with the journalists of
Maariv and
Haaretz, two newspapers that are attempting to save themselves financially by layoffs (
Haaretz) and by becoming online only (
Maariv).
Maariv's reporters are demonstrating today, and
Haaretz's reporters will decide on Wednesday afternoon whether to block the paper from printing Thursday's edition.
Yes, yes,
Haaretz the putative leading newspaper in Israel doesn't have enough circulation to make a profit. Just like its idol, the
New York Times.

What a shock: Censorship on Israel Radio
Israel Radio has ordered presenter Anat Davidov to stop giving out
90-second spots for individual opinions on the Friday afternoon mid-day newscast.
The directors of the Israel Broadcasting Authority have ordered radio presenter Anat Davidov to drop the personal opinion pieces which air on her weekly "Midday Friday" program on Reshet Bet, sparking claims of censorship from journalists.
The program offered 90 second spots to three or four speakers expressing their opinions on current events. However, last week Broadcasting Authority heads - including Miki Miro, the director of Israel Radio - met with Davidov and instructed her to do away with the personal slots. On Friday her program only included one such piece, which dealt with sport.
"Instead of encouraging dialog and discussion, they are silencing it," one Broadcasting Authority journalist said. "In such a year, an election year, along with the social protest, the connection and aim of such a move are blatant," he added.

The Broadcasting Authority said, "As part of changes in the radio programs, a decision was also made to change the format of 'Midday Friday.' Other changes will also be implemented soon."
My guess is that one of those affected will be
Rabbi Binyamin Lau. Shame on the Broadcast Authority! Nanny State Radio!

UN publishes report accusing Israel of absuing 'Palestinian' children
The United Nations accused Israel of violating the human rights of 'Palestinian' children in Gaza and the West Bank, and contended that the Jewish State was not acting to prevent settler violence against Palestinians.
“Prolonged occupation deforms the development of children through pervasive deprivations affecting health, education, and overall security,” said a United Nations official.
“The insecurity of Palestinian children is aggravated in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem by settler violence and night time raids and detentions by Israeli occupation forces, house demolitions, threatened expulsions, and a host of other practices,” he added.
The official stated that the number of Palestinian children arrested has risen in the past four years and that there has been a 50 percent increase in settler violence this year.
“The failure to prevent and punish settler violence remains a serious and ongoing violation of Israel’s fundamental legal obligation to protect the civilian population,” he said.
The UN official also decried Israel's naval blockade of Gaza, urging the international community to “urgently allow entry to Gaza of material needed for repair of water and electricity infrastructure” to avoid deterioration of the health of civilians, particularly children who are in a critical condition.
Israel Radio spent most of its 7:00 - 8:00 am hour and much of its 8:00 - 9:00 am hour on this report. The Jerusalem Post also wrote about it and I will take you to that link shortly.
So what haven't I told you? I haven't told you the same thing that Israel Radio didn't tell you other than to mention the UN official's name, and the same thing that took the Jerusalem Post until the seventh paragraph of a nine-paragraph story to mention - and even then they only mentioned a small part of it.
Here's what JPost had to say about the report's author.
[Richard] Falk faced calls that he resign in July after he posted on his personal blog a cartoon of a dog with a kippah urinating on a statue of Lady Justice, and alleged that arrest warrants issued by the International Criminal Court against Muammar Gaddafi were politically motivated.
US envoy to the UN, Joseph M. Torsella, called on Falk to resign as did Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, chairwoman of the US House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee. The Anti-Defamation League and B’nai B’rith also weighed in, calling on Falk to step down.
Falk said that posting the cartoon “was a mistake and I regret it,” but said that he would not resign.
But there's so much more that they didn't tell you about Richard Falk. At first, he
denied posting that cartoon. He's a
9/11 truther (and been
condemned for it by Ban Ki-Moon). He's been
barred from entering Israel, which he has
compared to Nazis. He doesn't work for the United Nations, but for its '
Human Rights Council' - a body whose vehement obsession with Israel is well documented.
Did anyone really expect this guy to produce a report that doesn't condemn Israel?
In fact, the real question here is why - if they were going to insist on covering it - Israel Radio's Reshet Bet (a government-owned station) and the Jerusalem Post gave the report any credibility at all? You could have listened to Israel Radio for most of Friday's morning drive time broadcast and thought that the UN was condemning us for doing horrible things - and that maybe even they had a point. But no, they didn't. Falk has no credibility whatsoever. And neither do Reshet Bet or the Jerusalem Post - at least on this one.

Flotilla 'journalist' trying to organize intifada
If you follow any Leftists who write about Israel on Twitter, you have probably seen the name Ibn Ezra around. Ibn Ezra is the
Twitter handle of Joseph Dana, who describes himself as an American Israeli who writes for the Nation, one of the most far Left journals in the United States. The
real Ibn Ezra is probably rolling over in his grave.
On Monday morning, Israel Radio's Eran Cicurel outed Dana, as not a journalist but a 'community organizer,' and a pretty violent one at that. When Dana refused email requests to do an interview with Israel Radio (he claimed that he does not talk to Israel Radio because he was rudely treated by a female reporter), which was looking to interview a foreign journalist in Athens covering the flotilla, Cicurel did some digging and discovered that Dana is the Communications Director for the 'Coordinating Committee for the Popular Struggle.' That's the name of a group that is seeking to incite a third intifada, albeit one more on the model of the 'nonviolent' (only stones and Molotov cocktails thrown at moving cars) first intifada than on the more violent (suicide bombers) second intifada.
There are two things that are most amusing about this. First, Dana claims that he's committed to 'balanced reporting' on the flotilla. One look at his resume ought to convince you otherwise. Second, with everything else that Dana has tweeted about on his Twitter feed (including an al-Jazeera interview of which he's quite proud), his encounter with Israel Radio has not rated a mention.

How many more 'journalists' are there on the flotilla who are really part of the provocation and not there to cover it? I'd bet there are a lot of them.

Do you believe in anonymous reports?
An anonymous 'Palestinian' source reported by Israel Radio says that the US government has officially informed the 'Palestinians' that Israel will not agree to an extension of the 'settlement freeze.'
An Israeli government source says not to believe anonymous 'Palestinian' sources.
Hmmm.
UPDATE 5:02 PMThe 'Palestinians' are now denying this story too, although they continue to insist on a 'settlement freeze.'

Breaking: Two Iranian nuclear scientists killed in separate bomb blasts
Israel Radio is reporting that two Iranian nuclear scientists were killed in separate bomb blasts Monday morning in Tehran.
According to Eran Singer of Israel Radio, two bombs exploded Monday morning in Tehran (early report, confused). Singer cites an Al-Ahram report that a lecturer in nuclear science in Tehran University was killed by a bomb on Monday morning. Details are sketchy. In a second bomb attack Monday morning, a car with a nuclear scientist and his wife exploded and both were killed.
You may recall that nuclear physicist Massoud Ali Mohammadi (pictured) was killed by an
exploding motorcycle in Tehran in January (link includes video).
This is a very preliminary report - all we know is that there were two explosions and two nuclear scientists (not the one pictured - he was killed last January in a similar incident) were killed.
More details when I have them.
UPDATE 11:00 AM
Israel Radio is now reporting only one killed with his wife - the other was critically wounded. They say that bicycle riders set the bombs off next to the nuclear scientists' cars.

An Iranian university professor was assassinated Monday morning with another one injured in a separate bomb attack.
Majid Shahryari was martyred while Fereydoun Abbasi was injured.
The terrorist attacks took place this morning when the two professors were on their ways to Shahid Beheshti Universtiy in north of Tehran where they worked.
Shahryari, who was accompanied by his wife, was killed instantly after two terrorists driving a motorbike attacked his car. His wife is in good condition in a nearby hospital.
In a separate incident also this morning, Abbasi and his wife were injured in a terrorist attack. The two survived the attack and are in good conditions in hospital.
A distinguished Iranian physics professor, Masoud Alimohammadi, was killed in a remote-controlled bomb blast in front of his home in northern Tehran Jan 12, 2010.
Israel Radio reports that - surprise - Iran is blaming the US and Israel.
