This song is based on the prayer said on Shabbos before Rosh Chodesh( the new month)-"Mevarchim HaChodesh. A short explanation of the Jewish calendar is included. Written by David Flug for the Deemyon Orchestra as part of their "Holiday songs" project.

Tonight you're going to get an education with your music.

This past week was Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the new month of Nissan. Tonight, we sanctified the new moon, and the middle of next week will of course be Pesach (Passover), the beginning of the annual holiday cycle. But last week we also blessed the moon on its arrival - and that's the source for the words of this song.

But as you listen to this song, watch the video. You'll learn something about the Jewish calendar.

By the way, for those of you wondering why I called Pesach the beginning of the annual holiday cycle - and not Rosh HaShana (the Jewish New Year), the Torah says that the month of Nissan is the first month of the year, while Tishrei, in which Rosh HaShanna occurs, is the 7th month. The Mishna explains that the holiday cycle starts with Pesach.
