I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Steven Sotloff did NOT die a Jew. He died for Allah, as an Islamic martyr - by the family's own admission.
He worked hand in glove as a public relations guy for every Islamic terrorist outfit on the planet, he traveled to places around the Middle East to meet them and he championed their views.
Sotloff lived for years in the Muslim World and deeply hated the Jews and Israel. He left Israel in 2008 because of his pro Muslim and pro Hamas/Muslim Brotherhood views. He wasn't a Jewish hero and did not die as a faithful Jew. No sane Jew lets himself fall into the hands of head-chopping Islamic terrorists.
Yet these are the people he associated with and whom he found admirable. No wonder he lost his head! People who take his far leftist family's makeover of him at face value are fools. His life speaks for itself, in that falling in with the wrong crowd can get you killed.
And is that exactly what happened to him. When you befriend deadly vipers, you can get bit and die. When you befriend Islamic terrorists, sometimes you lose your head. Getting involved with evil people leads to no good and its a story as old as mankind.
Hang on, let me put on my tinfoil hat too.
