This ad is brilliant

This ad - for Republican Senatorial candidate Allen Weh (New Mexico) is brilliant, says what has to be said, is entirely about foreign policy and the fallout of the United States' lost stature in the world under Obama.

Let's go to the videotape.

We should be seeing a lot more like this over the next two months. By the way, did you note that only 17% of Americans are satisfied with Obama's handling of 'Israel-Hamas'? Can I interpret that as saying that Main Street USA still loves us? Or are they upset that Obama hasn't put a stop to the war yet? Comments invited....

On the subject as to whether normal folks in the US still love Israel, I figure I'll answer as best I can. The US is a very big and diverse place, so I can't speak for all of it. I live in New Jersey, and am a conservative and a Christian, which are both groups traditionally very strongly in support of Israel. I do have a fair number of liberal family members, so I feel like I have a pretty good sense for the political environment here at the moment.

The US used to be almost 100% pro-Israel, because both parties needed both Christian and Jewish votes, and both were very pro-Israel. However, most of the Christians have been pushed to the Republican party over issues like abortion and homosexual unions. Many of the Zionist Jews have left for Israel. Many of those that remain have become Republican for some of the same reasons as the Christians. And there are many in this country who identify as Jewish but aren't pro-Israel; I don't understand, but I'm not a Jew, and so it's not my place to comment. Thus now the Republicans have become the pro-Israel party, while the Democrats are stuck in an awkward place where their "base" is anti-Israel, but most moderates are somewhat pro-Israel, so the Democrats hedge this way and that, trying to be all things to all people.

I think Israel has gotten so good at the culture and information war, with the IDF blog videos and press releases, with well informed Israeli leaders appearing on US television news programs, and etc., that the truth isn't quite as far behind the lies as it used to be. In addition, so many things are going so horribly in the US and around the world that Obama has taken a good number of political hits he used to be immune to. Most of my liberal family members, who are usually pretty strident and upset with me over things like my support for Israel, are conspicuously silent. Even the New York Times, which is usually as biased and ignorant as the BBC, has had to print a few articles on the "unreliability" of the PA civilian casualty numbers.

All in all, support for Israel is pretty high, especially in Christian strongholds like the south. The northeast has steadily been marching leftwards, and thus anti-Israel, for a long time. But the liberals are not having children, and the Christians are, so the long-term demographics aren't bad for Israel either, I think.

You are part of this important information campaign. Keep up the good work. We're praying for you.
