This is rich: 'Equal burden' law to be debated on Lapid's great-great-great-grandfather's yahrtzeit (anniversary of death)

This is rich....

Israel's Knesset is going to debate the 'Equal Burden' law on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Tuesday is the yahrtzeit (anniversary of death) of Rabbi Shmuel Shmelke Klein, a well known Hassidic rabbi who was the rabbi of the town of Chust, Ukraine (link in Hebrew), and later of the town of Selish, Romania. Rabbi Klein passed away on the 9th day of the Second Adar in 5635 (corresponding to the Gregorian year 1875) and is buried in Selish. Tuesday is the 9th day of the Second Adar in 5774.

Rabbi Klein was the great-great-great-grandfather of Yair Lapid. The book pictured above was a biography of Rabbi Klein written by his grandson - Lapid's great grandfather - Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Klein.

On Tuesday, a delegation of rabbis from Israel will fly to Selish to pray at Rabbi Klein's grave, asking Rabbi Klein to foil his progeny's plan to draft Haredim into the IDF and impose criminal sanctions on those who refuse to go (link in Hebrew).

Rabbi Klein was the author of a work called Tzror HaChayim (the Secret of Life), which the article says is studied in many yeshivos (I don't recall seeing it, but that doesn't mean much).

Lapid is what we would call a Quintroon; only under the one-drop rule, he could be considered of chareidi derivation.

I should have made it more clear. In the vernacular, one could say that he is one part in thirty two black.
