Ariel Sharon dead?

There are reports in the media that Ariel Sharon's condition has markedly deteriorated over the last few days, and I have even heard rumors from friends online that Sharon has died. But those rumors are unconfirmed and this is the story for now.
In the past few days there has been a deterioration in the condition of former prime minister Ariel Sharon's medical condition, a Sheba Medical Center, Tel Hashomer spokesman said.
The 11th prime minister of Israel has been in a coma since January 2006.
The 85-year-old has been taken care of at Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer for most of the time since he was felled by two strokes.
He has seen sporadic positive responses to scans that measure brain activity, but has remained in a deep vegetative state since his initial hospitalization.
 I just got an email saying that Ichud Hatzalah (a private ambulance service) says that Sharon is confirmed dead.

UPDATE 9:39 PM

Reports of Sharon's death are premature.

I have wondered about this, whether he was still alive, dead... I think he suffered a stroke in 2006? That is a long time to be out of the news, in a permanent vegetative state. Very strange.
