The reaction should be 'private and mild' only if it results in Pollard's release.
I note that after 5-6 posts mentioning Pollard in the last few days, none of the regular commenters who oppose his release have come out of the woodwork. Is silence agreement? Does everyone now see what hypocrites lead the American government?

I have long maintained that Israel could have, and still can, accelerate the release of Pollard by capturung and detaining a number of US spies in Israel and charging them with espionage. If the US can swap captured Soviet bloc spies for US spies captured bu the Soviets or its satellites, it can do the same with Pollard.
I have no doubt that Israel has considered this and elected to avoid taking this action. It must have weighted the risks and benefits and decided to minimize harm to US-Israel relations by doing this. Perhaps some other US "ally" will be the first to take this step now that the controversy over US spying is out in the open.
I have long viewed Snowden as a traitor. That view has not changed, other than my realization that it creates this opportunity.
