87.5%(!) of Israeli Jews believe there won't be a 'peace treaty'
Foreign Minister Avigdor Liberman (whose picture with John Kerry I have not yet found) is warning that Kerry should not expect a peace agreement from the current round of talks. And most Israeli Jews agree with Liberman. In fact, a huge majority of 87.5% agree with Liberman. The survey of 500 Jewish Israeli Hebrew speaking adults was conducted by New Wave for Yisrael Hayom 4 December 2013 and published on 6 December.
Statistical error +/- 4.4 percentage points.
Do you believe that the negotiations underway now will reach a peace agreement with the Palestinians?Liberman wants the talks to go on, but he's much more realistic than Kerry. This is from the first link.
Yes 6% No 87.5% Don't know 6.5%
Liberman said US Secretary of State John Kerry would not achieve an agreement within a year, as Kerry has anticipated, and cautioned against creating “expectations.” Liberman excoriated Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas as undemocratic and unrepresentative.
However, Liberman also said he was grateful to Kerry for restarting talks with the Palestinians, saying that dialogue was crucial to preventing violence.
Will Kerry listen? Don't bet on it. If he does, Obama and Kerry won't have their 'major foreign policy achievement.'“It’s crucial to keep this dialogue,” he said during his interview-style appearance. “It’s important to manage this conflict.”
What could go wrong?
