Ayelet Shaked avoids responsibility

The Jewish Home party's Ayelet Shaked has written a letter sharply criticizing the release of 'Palestinian' terrorist murderers as a 'concession' to get the 'Palestinians' to come to the 'negotiating' table. There's just one small problem. She wrote the letter to US Secretary of State John Kerry. The last time I checked, Kerry does not work for Israel and does not represent us. Shaked's party leader, Naftali Bennett, her Prime Minister, Binyamin Netanyahu, and Shaked herself do represent us. If Israel is making admittedly stupid moves like releasing terrorist murderers  - especially when we get nothing in return - maybe we need to be looking at our own leadership and not at the Americans.
"In light of the current situation that you have brought about, I feel that I cannot be bound by the restraints of 'politically correct' wording, and I therefore will allow myself to convey my following message to you in the most straightforward fashion."
...
"By forcing Israel to capitulate to terrorism by releasing murdering terrorists with so much blood on their hands that the US would never dream of releasing if it was their own citizens murdered – you are not only being extremely hypocritical, but are actually dabbling in experimentation and gambling, by putting me and my children's lives at risk,"
...
"Mr. Secretary: the price of releasing over a hundred convicted murderers will be borne by my family and my people, not by you." she continued, asking "How will you carry the burden of the terrible price toward which you are leading us?"
"You forced us into peace talks during a period of time that the entire Middle East is in chaos, without realizing that by doing so, you have foolishly put us in an impossible situation in which we cannot and will not make any concessions."
By "raising expectations to a dangerous level" in this way, Kerry is threatening "to cause the whole region to spin out of control," she claimed.
Well, yeah, but how did Kerry force us to release them? Doesn't Netanyahu have the ability to say no? Didn't Netanyahu have the choice of deciding on something that could be quickly undone (a 'settlement freeze')? Did Kerry force us into 'peace talks'? Or did Netanyahu keep telling anyone who would listen how he wanted a 'two-state solution' so please don't look at him as one of 'those extremists'?

Then, Shaked starts whining about Jonathan Pollard again. I would love to see Jonathan Pollard released, but he has nothing to do with this. We shouldn't be trading 104 terrorist murderers for Jonathan Pollard just like we shouldn't have traded 1,000 for Gilad Shalit. And Jonathan Pollard would be the first to tell her that.
"You forcing us to release terrorists with blood on their hands is made all the more absurd, cynical and vicious by the fact that your country refuses to this day to release Jonathan Pollard from jail, despite the unprecedented term he has served thusfar," she wrote.
Shaked, like her boss, Naftali Bennett, is a politician from the amateur hour. She cannot be entrusted with running the country.

I wouldn't be so hard on her. Yes, there is an element of amateurism in her letter, but precisely that's why it has appeal: it is fresh, sincere... and right on the money. Yes, she should be yelling at Bibi, but she is also correct nevertheless in pointing out that for Kerry to carry the Palestinians' water and stoop so low as to demand from Bibi that he releases these lowlives (who should have been executed a long time ago if Israel hadn't had the bright idea to eliminate the death penalty) remains profoundly disgusting and entirely inappropriate for a US Secretary of State. Had he had any sense of decency, he would have told Abbas to shove it and to never make that kind of demand again. And therein lies the problem: he didn't. He thought it was a reasonable request, and he dutifully went on to force Israel to accept it. As such, he deserves to be called an amoral individual. Of the two, I'll take Shaked's amateurism any day over Kerry's.
