Shimon Peres thanks the Russians for 1,000 years of hospitality
What did we talk about around the Sabbath table this week? No, not the rocket launches. In between Torah discussions and catching up on the week, we talked about Shimon Peres' latest remarks on Russia.Maybe someone needs to remind him why he left Belarus in the first place.

He is a strange character but on one level I can understand what he is doing. He is saying to the Russians and the world: "We were foreigners in your land. Now we are back home."
No, Aparatchik. Peres' exact words are "I came here to say thank you. Thank you for a thousand years of hospitality.”
Peres is wicked wretch. Just bury your past and learn nothing from it:
" Generally I have very little patience for history. I am bored with history, for the simple reason that you cannot change it. You can analyze it, and people say if you don’t learn the past, you will repeat the mistakes of the past. Okay, learn the past — then you will not repeat the mistakes of the past, you will make new mistakes." (Peres interview, The Jerusalem Post, July 12, 2001)

What Shimon Says
Hey schmuck, the Russians had no Jews until the partition of Poland in 1780.
Thanks, Shy Guy, for the link to that article. I read as much of that as I could stand. Peres has stated some, um, remarkable viewpoints and outlook for a President of Israel. We can't all be highly educated intellectual giants like Abba Eban, but neither should we be proud anti-intellectuals, as apparently is Peres.
