'Almost' doesn't count except in horseshoes

One of the many profound sayings we had when I was a kid was that 'almost' doesn't count except in horseshoes. I thought of that today when I saw this statement by National Security Council chief Yaakov Amidror that the order for a ground invasion of Gaza was 'almost' given twice last week.

National Security Council head Yaakov Amidror on Saturday revealed that the order to begin a ground incursion into Gaza was nearly given on two separate occasions during Operation Pillar of Defense.

In an interview on Channel 2's Meet The Press, Amidror said that ultimately it was decided that the IDF could achieve its objectives through other means.

Really? What were the IDF's objectives? How were they achieved?

The IDF's objectives should have been deposing the Hamas 'government' once and for all and disarming Gaza. We're still waiting for that to happen.
