Freedom of speech, Islamic style
This is what Muslims call 'free speech.' Egypt's top Muslim cleric on Saturday called for an international ban on all forms of attacks against Islam, after a provocative film sparked violent protests in the Middle East and North Africa.The problem is that the Islamist President of the United States and his administration have been backing this sort of thing....
Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayyeb, grand imam of Cairo's Al-Azhar, the highest seat of Sunni Muslim learning, underlined "the need for an international resolution (banning) any attack on Muslim religious symbols," in a statement addressed to UN leader Ban Ki-moon and published by official news agency MENA.
The resolution should "criminalise attacks on Islamic symbols and on those of other religions, after the violence against those who provoked challenges to world peace and international security," said Tayyeb.

There is a difference between free speech and hate speech. Islamophobia is hate speech.
Don't be hypocritical.
Jews fought to have a law denying the Holocaust. Some say that is a violation of free speech. Nevertheless, since there are many who want to deny the Holocaust for their own dubious ends, it was reasonable to accept it. Therefore, since there is a concerted effort by Islamophobes to criticise Islam (for Zionism) we have a right to call for a cap on it.
That other religions don't is irrelevant. Nobody is forcing Jews or Christians to accept the rubbishing of their own religions. If they don't love God or their religion it's not our problem. We're not going to become like you.
Here is something you'd want to consider. In England there was a movie made some years ago, where the movie director portrayed Jesus as being gay. A Muslim group issued a death fatwa. None of the Christians groups objected to that. Even though they themselves didn't issue it.
All civilised countries have caps on hate speech.
The US first amendment is riduculous, in that it's like putting a gun in the hand of a 2 year old. One does not give free speech to an illiterate, uncouth hate filled populace with an agenda, which is what the Islamophobic crowd is. The majoirity of people in the USA are unenlightened and ignorantm, and poorly educated. Bigotry thrives in this underclass.
You're doubly hypocritical, in that Israel doesn't allow insulting of religions, isn't insulting Islam a crime in Israel?
The US will eventually outlaw Islamophobia, though not for us, but for it's own interests.
Just one boycott of American goods by Muslim nations will render US businesses (whatever are not hocked to China) bankrupt.
The 'first amendment' is a joke. Free speech doesn't exist, otherwise, you could freely call for killing someone and the police wouldn't have to arrest you for incitement.
That the US will compromise it's own so called values when it is convenient is the biggest proof of what is wrong with a democracy, and the 'first amendment'.
