El Al asks to discontinue service to Cairo
Israel Radio reports (9:00 am) that El Al, the country's national airline has asked permission to discontinue its service to Cairo, because it is losing money due to the security costs (and probably due to lack of passengers).Alternatively, the airline has asked the government to subsidize the politically sensitive route.
I'm amazed they waited this long to ask.

Why do they need to ask? Why can't they simply not do that?
I for one hope that the Israeli Govt gives El Al some sort of financial assistance to keep the Tel Aviv-Cairo flight running, even if only on a minimal schedule. To abandon the route would be a minor victory for the Islamists.
