Invoking an exception for combatants, a court in Haifa found on Tuesday found that the State of Israel was not responsible for the death of ISM terrorist Rachel Corrie (and yes, that first sentence and the title of this post were quite blunt and inflammatory, and deservedly so). Corrie turned herself into a combatant. In the verdict, Judge Oded Gershon invoked the principle of the combatant activities exception, noting that IDF forces had been attacked in the same area Corrie was killed just hours earlier.No, Mrs. Corrie. We have a real court system in Israel, just like the United States. When our soldiers commit war crimes (which is rare) they pay a price. There was no war crime this time.
Corrie, 23, from Olympia, Washington, died in Rafah, in the southern Gaza Strip, on March 16, 2003, when an IDF bulldozer struck her during a protest by pro-Palestinian group the International Solidarity Movement.
Reading a summary of his 62-page decision, the judge described Israel's investigation into the incident as appropriate and said it had no mistakes.
Asserting that Corrie could have avoided danger, he dismissed claims that the IDF was negligent in the incident and denied the family's suit for symbolic damages. The IDF did not violate Corrie's right to life, he continued, asserting that she inserted herself into a dangerous situation.
The state, he continued, was not responsible for any "damages caused" due to the combat situation but nonetheless called Corrie's death a "regrettable accident."

Rachel's mother Cindy said she was deeply saddened by the verdict.
"From the beginning it was clear that there is a system to protect soldiers and provide them with impunity at the cost of civilians," she told reporters outside the court. "Now we now that the protection for soldiers extends to the court."
Saying that US diplomacy and the Israeli court system failed her family, Cindy Corrie added that there was never a credible investigation into her daughter's death.'Palestinians' have access to a court system in Israel. They don't have access to one worth its name in the 'Palestinian Authority' or in Hamastan.
However, she continued, "At least we have had access to a court system, which most Palestinians are denied."

'Palestinians' have access to far more than just a real court system in Israel, they have access to Western Civilization. In the "Palestinian Authority' or Hamastan", as Carl put it, they have access only to a warped, begrudging, bleak version of modernity, without freedom or hope.
Let's go back over a century to the perspective of Islamic society from a young British writer, a junior British Army officer named Winston Churchill, just returned to Britain from years of service in the Middle East.
Young Churchill, an 1895 graduate of Sandhurst Royal Military College, had personal experience of Muslim society, in peace and war, in his service as a junior officer. In peace and war, he'd served in India, in parts of India now called Pakistan, in Egypt and in Sudan. This is what Churchill had to say about Islam in his first book, written in 1899, "The River War", about the Sudan War in which he had served:
"How dreadful are the curses which Mohammedanism lays on its votaries! Besides the fanatical frenzy, which is as dangerous in a man as hydrophobia in a dog, there is this fearful fatalistic apathy.
"The effects are apparent in many countries. Improvident habits, slovenly systems of agriculture, sluggish methods of commerce, and insecurity of property exist wherever the followers of the Prophet rule or live. A degraded sensualism deprives this life of its grace and refinement; the next of its dignity and sanctity. The fact that in Mohammedan law every woman must belong to some man as his absolute property – either as a child, a wife, or a concubine – must delay the final extinction of slavery until the faith of Islam has ceased to be a great power among men.
"The influence of the religion paralyses the social development of those who follow it. No stronger retrograde force exists in the world. Far from being moribund, Mohammedanism is a militant and proselytizing faith. It has already spread throughout Central Africa, raising fearless warriors at every step; and were it not that Christianity is sheltered in the strong arms of science, the science against which it had vainly struggled, the civilisation of modern Europe might fall, as fell the civilisation of ancient Rome."
He pretty well hit the nail on the head, don't you think? Then and now.
What's changed about Middle Eastern & non-ME Islamic societies since Churchill made these insightful observations over a century ago? True then and true now. Essentially nothing has changed, other than their now having adopted a veneer of modernity from the Western Civilization that they so despise, or at least view as unacceptably alien.
Let's consider especially the last sentence of the Churchill quote above. It says a lot and implies a lot. If you consider, as I do, Judaism and Christianity-mother and daughter-as the spiritual and moral foundations of Western Civilization, you can see, as I do, why Western Civilization is so vulnerable today. To the sad extent that the West has today embraced neo-liberalism and it's smiley face fascism, and rejected our spiritual and moral foundations, we are profoundly weakened, directionless and vulnerable.
Hi Carl, we don't speak of the ill dead, even if the deceased is not our own. But you obviously have no moral qualms in doing so.
Thank you for proving once again the superiority of the Muslim moral code. Jews over the centuries converted to Islam ( I can give a long list of them) but rarely the other way round.

Anyone note CaptH's ignorant comment? The stupid fool is unaware that Palestinians in the diaspora are wealthier and better educated than the natives. Certainly the Palestinians in the USA are better educated and richer than him or his Christian right ignorant underclass, most of whom are cannon fodder for the military only.

Are you envious or just plain ignorant? Islam built western civilisation, and if you had gone to university you would have known that. It was foretold by The Prophet. God's blessings :) That is something that troubles Christian supremacists like yourself. You can't claim Islam is false whilst living off it's fruits and moral code.

Winston Churchill was a sore loser, those words were said when he couldn't hold on to the Middle East, Christinaity hardly made a dent at all, it was rejected. Sour grapes. He knew his country (the English King Richard the lionheart after being defeated by Saladin wanted to marry his sister to him) owes a debt of gratitude to Islam. Being a Christian supremacist that probably troubled him. After all, how could Islam have given Christian Europe it's knowledge if what he said were true? Knowledge passed on to America eventually. Christianity did away with the law, which is identical to Shariah, if Paul the false prophet hadn't distorted Jesus's word, deified him and did away with the law, (which Jesus followed) Christianity's history would have been one of glory too, and not been bloody, lawless and full of ignorance. It's a pity Winston Churchill didn't realise that, I guess envy blinded him huh?

Are you going to respond to CaptH's comment in an appropriate manner and tell him that the separation of state and Christian religion was the reason the US flourished and not due to 'judeo christian' civilisation a fabrication of his imagination?

Christian conservatives destroyed America when they gained prominence between 2002-2007, something the deist pro Islam forefathers (Jefferson) foresaw.
