Hamas may declare Gaza unoccupied

Israel Radio reports (9:00 am news) that the London pan-Arabic daily al-Hayat is reporting that Hamas is considering declaring Gaza an independent territory, no longer 'occupied' by Israel and no longer connected to the 'Palestinian Authority.' Of course, the 'Palestinian Authority' is opposed.

As part of the declaration, Hamas would also end all commercial ties between Gaza and Israel.

Hamas is considering this as a result of the Muslim Brotherhood's victory in Egypt's elections.

Sounds fine to me. Does that mean they'll get off the international dole too?

UPDATE 12:26 PM

The al-Hayat article is here (link in Arabic, Hat Tip: Jonathan Schanzer via Twitter). Google translation here.

UPDATE 3:02 PM

Israel Radio reports (3:00 pm news) that Hamas is denying the al-Hayat article.

What Israel will no longer benefit from the bounty of Gazan exports of...of um, ...ok, we're on this...cucumbers and tomatoes. But then would Gaza qualify for American Food Stamps under the SNAP program?
