Clinton 'doesn't expect' Pollard to be released
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told a news conference on Monday evening that she has 'no expectation' that Jonathan Pollard will be released. Clinton said“Jonathan Pollard was convicted of espionage, sentenced to life imprisonment and is serving the sentence. I do not have any expectation that this will change.”unless it can help Hussein Obama's reelection chances in a close race. Then he'll suddenly be released the last week of October.

This is still one of the strangest stories on the planet. The article I'm linking *must* be wrong; wouldn't Jonathan Pollard have done all the steps available to get out of there? I don't get it.

"He [de Genova]added, “[Pollard] was sentenced to life with the possibility of parole, which means after ten years – which was a number of years ago – he could apply for parole, and if they granted him release he would be released. He’s never done that.”
De Genova noted that unless Pollard asks for parole, he will remain in prison for life, unless he is granted clemency by the President. He said, however, that the possibility that Obama would grant Pollard clemency is unlikely."
What nobody in the Israeli MSM is stating is that Jonathan Pollard will be released in 2015, per the Bureau of Prisons regulations in effect when he was imprisoned, as long as he continues to maintain his good behavior record.
I cant' believe this is massive ignorance of the facts. Rather, it's part of the general effort to raise sympathy for him. An image of Pollard locked up forever gets more sympathy than does the truth of his release in 3 years.
If anyone is getting the impression that I have no sympathy for Pollard, or anyone who spies on America, you're right. I'm an American, a US Military veteran, one who also had a security clearance, who also swore the same oath of secrecy and obedience to lawful authority that Pollard freely chose to swear when he applied for his job. We current and past members of the US Military who kept our oath concerning classified matters and obeyed lawful authority have a pretty uniform negative view of any of those who didn't.
From Pollard's Wiki bio:
"At the time of Pollard's sentencing there was a rule that mandated parole after 30 years of imprisonment for certain prisoners who had maintained a clean record in prison. That parole date would be November 21, 2015. Pollard was also eligible to apply for parole after eight years and six months, although he has not done so to date.[45] If the application for parole were unsuccessful, a further application could not be submitted for another 15 years.[46]
His Federal Bureau of Prisons ID is #09185-016. He is incarcerated in FCI Butner Medium at the Butner Federal Correction Complex in North Carolina. The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) projects his release date as November 21, 2015.[47]"
Sunlight,
Someone else sent me that story offline yesterday, and I didn't post it because I wanted to check it with some of the Pollard experts.
But if you look at captain.H's comment, the reason is pretty clear. If he applies and is turned down, he cannot reapply for 15 years. What do you think the odds are of Pollard being granted parole if it's not mandatory? I doubt that he believed in 1995 that he would be in for this long.
Yup, Carl. I think that is right. Captain H's quote means the parole is automatic (not a parole board being able to nix it) in 2015? I also don't think it helps him when people are taking on his case as an "Israeli", when he is an American. I was confused about that for years, and I actually pay some attention. The whole thing is strange.
Pollard will never be released. Israel needs to point to Pollard the next time Hillary Obama demands Israel free a thousand convicted murderers and just say no.

Empress Trudy, I'm going to remind you of your statement on November 22, 2015, the day after Pollard's release, and ask you to post a comment "I was wrong." :-)
