State Department slams Israeli construction announcement
But of course. The US State Department has slammed an announcement by Prime Minister Netanyahu that Israel will build another 850 homes for Jews in Judea and Samaria, 300 in Beit El and 500 everyplace else."Continued Israeli settlement activity in the West Bank undermines peace efforts and contradicts Israeli commitments and obligations including the 2003 Roadmap," a State Department spokesman said on Wednesday evening. This is our time to do this sort of thing. If God forbid Obama is reelected in November, the next four years could bring much stronger reactions than this one.
"The US position on Israeli settlements is clear," he said. "We do not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlement activity. We also oppose any effort to legalize settlement outposts."
