Professor Ben Zion Netanyahu z"l on the 'Palestinian people'

Here's what Professor Ben Zion Netanyahu, the Prime Minister's late father, had to say about the 'Palestinian people' in a 1998 interview:

איני חושב שלערבים המכנים עצמם פלשתינים יש זכות לדרוש מדינה. לי ברור לגמרי שאין עם פלשתיני כלל. אין ולא היה. הקיבוץ הערבי החי בארץ הוא חלק מן האוכלוסייה הערבית הרחבה המכנה את עצמה האומה הערבית. כלומר מה שיש כאן הוא פשוט שלוחה של העולם הערבי. מעולם לא היה קיים עם פלשתיני נפרד. הטענה שקיים עם כזה לא באה אלא כדי להצדיק את התביעה לחיסול מדינת היהודים. ומכיוון שהמציאו לאום, מנסים כיום להמציא לו היסטוריה. מנסים ליצור אילוזיה של עם שלא היה ולא נברא

And for the Hebrew-challenged among you (my translation):

I don't think that the Arabs who call themselves 'Palestinians' have the right to demand a state. It is completely clear to me that there is no such thing as a 'Palestinian people.' There is not and there never was. The Arab community that lives in the country is part of the broad Arab population that calls itself the Arab nation. That is, what is here is simply an extension of the Arab world. There was never a separate 'Palestinian' nation. The claim that such a nation exists only tomes to justify the claim to liquidate the Jewish state, and since they invented a nationality, they are now trying to invent a history for it. They are trying to create the illusion of a nation that did not exist and was never created.

Indeed. So why is his son willing to give them a 'state'?
