IDF banning dual citizens from submarines
There are hundreds of people in this country who hold dual citizenship - yours truly included. Now, the IDF has decided that people who are dual citizens cannot be in its submarine unit. The IDF now demands that new candidates for service in Israel's submarine fleet waive their foreign citizenship in order to join the elite unit.I may be missing something here, but I don't see the point of making these recruits give up their dual citizenship.
The demand to concede one's dual citizenship is made at certain IDF combat units and for posts requiring high security clearance. Submarine fleet recruits receive a notification stating they must renounce their foreign citizenships in order to qualify for the prolonged training, as part of their security screenings.
Submarine fleet recruits who fail to complete the year-long training lose their foreign citizenships nonetheless.
The recent move raised strong opposition among fleet reserve officers, who claim that the new requirement will limit the number of volunteers to the unit.
"This is absurd. Many excellent recruits hold a dual citizenship but wish to serve in an elite unit such as submarine fleet,"an ex-officer said. "In a country that fights for every recruit, especially for elite units, this demand should not be made. Soldiers serve for only a few years, and must not pay by losing the foreign citizenship that can be used later in life."
Security officials say that in recent years there was a decline in number of units that demand a foreign citizenship waiver as part of the security clearance process. The criteria for receiving a security clearance are decided by the units, the Shin Bet and the National Security Council, according to the level of exposure to classified materials during one's service.
In many combat units, candidates are required to declare any foreign citizenship, but not to renounce it.

Way overboard.
And if I may add:
Unfathomable!
This is so obvious it's almost funny
why this is being done , even so I won't be the one to spill the beans.
This is very good for Israel , and
horrific to anyone who would God forbid initiate a war .
Hi Carl,
National Security sometimes demands harsh measures.
Perhaps the Israeli Security Forces have discovered something that they are not disclosing, who knows?
It doesn't seem so odd to me right now...
Cheers
I don't know...
What if those submarines have nuclear warheads?
i'm not justifying the decision, but looking for an explanation.
Before allowing anyone to be in a unit dealing with atomic weapons and the most advanced and secret missile types, the highest level security clearance includes that no one can run and splatter those secrets to another country of which he is a citizen and get automatically to stay there...or be subjected to black-mail on the part of secret services EVEN OF VERY FRIENDLY COUNTRIES of which he might be a citizen.
Don't think ONLY of US Citizens, but also of Russians, Argentinians, Brazilians, etc., whose countries are arming and supporting Israel's worst enemies...
One thing is to run into the US Embassy in Tel Aviv and ask for PROTECTION as a US Citizen. Another is to ask for asylum being an Israeli Citizen...
However, I think that whoever publicized this whole story is a full idiot.
Well, it is the same in the U.S. There are all kinds of levels, with "U.S. Persons" and some clearances dual citizens can't get. It's standard with your crown defenses.
I could see not being subject to domestic subpoenas as a driving factor. After all it's not as if the US has worried or cared when dual citizens or even non dual citizens in Israel get murdered by terrorists. But the US is incredibly paranoid about not subjecting US citizens to due process and prefers instead, under Obama to simply kill them. When the US kills foreign nationals in purpose, that's a different set of rules in play. Likewise, being subject to legal proceedings in the US as a US citizen are vastly more flexible and porous than those otherwise. There's enough classified stuff on subs to throw that wall up.
There are only three major powers in Messianic era: Israel, China and USA. You cannot have dual citizenship in one of the major power country.
This is a perfectly reasonable policy given the likely (ahem) strategic deterrence these subs may contain, and I hope they don't listen to the whining but keep it in place.
First, any person with a dual citizenship can leave the country using his other passport, and the authorities may not know. Even if he's using his Israeli passport to leave, he can skip to a third country (using the foreign passport) without anyone being the wiser. That makes spying easier.
Second, if a person with dual citizenship is arrested at the other country he has citizenship in, using some excuse, Israel would find it hard to interfere and this again may allow secrets to leak.
Third, Israeli deterrent would be less credible if the people who are supposed to be launching may hesitate because they have connections in other places. Imagine Israel had to deter Russia (the late USSR threatened Israel with nukes in the end of the Yom Kippur War). Is it really for the best for people on the subs to have Russian citizenship?
Dear Blog
This is not the Messianic Era.
The USA era is about to be over, it will no longer be a superpower. Israel is but a client state of the USA, not a superpower. China will be a Superpower, now that the US era is over.
Face reality and stop dreaming. End time fantasists like yourself are deluded, as Jesus himself warned. Just look at your history.
In fact, it was Evangelicals and conservative Christians who were the weapon God used to destroy America.
Get ready for the rise of the Islamic century. Unlike your prophecies, ours never fail, they came straight from the Almighty.
We know what the future is, and we know the signs of the Messianic era, and this era definately is not it.
But then again, this is what about the 50th time Christianity has been wrong? Tch Tch, you have nothing else to look forward to?
I may be missing something here, but I don't see the point of making these recruits give up their dual citizenship.
Use your ameoba sized brain Carl.
These recruits may have to choose which side to fight on, if the US ever goes to war with Israel. That scenario is not unlikely the more the more impotent the US becomes. When that happens, if they fight for the USA, then Israel is trying to ensure that they do not know what could be used against her.
Duh
I don't have a problem with it. Soon all of us will only be citizens of one country as there won't be much left of the rest of the world. Two thirds of the world is going to be destroyed.
Moriah
as there won't be much left of the rest of the world. Two thirds of the world is going to be destroyed.
Indeed, as God said :)
Devarim 31:29.
For I know that after my death, you will surely become corrupted, and deviate from the way which I had commanded you. Consequently, the evil will befall you at the end of days, because you did evil in the eyes of the Lord, to provoke Him to anger through the work of your hands.
