Condoleezza Rice on Iran
Here's part of an interview from the Steve Gill show with former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who is on a speaking tour to promote her new book, No Higher Honor. This part of the interview deals with Iran and with the possibility that Israel might strike Iran's nuclear facilities. Note what she says about what we can learn from the fact that a possible Israeli strike not in coordination with the United States is even discussed.Let's go to the videotape.

It is totally stunning to me that Dr. Rice goes on and on talking about the Middle East without EVER saying anything about rockets being shot onto Israeli kindergartens... She talks tough on the macro, but says nothing about the delegitimization that is occurring by just accepting rockets on Israel as part of the scenery. In fact, I remember her tearfully comparing the Palestinians to Martin Luther King's civil rights movement, which is an enormous insult to the masterfully peaceful operation that MLK ran. Maybe she could compare it to Farakhan's world, but not MLK. I wonder whether Dr. Rice will EVER say anything about the rockets, and then dismissively as if it is no big deal.
We were in Israel in summer '06 when the rockets were flying onto civilians in Israel from Lebanon. And Dr. Rice, in interrupting PM Olmert and Ms. Livni, wanted Israel even to sit still under those rockets. The hemming and hawing of the ground forces moving forward and then back, with "Don't you believe in diplomacy" coming from Dr. Rice's mouth. When what Israel needed to do was to enhance deterrence, so that firing onto Israeli civilians is considered the warcrime that it is, rather than a baseline acceptable condition that Dr. Rice seems to think it is. Really, she may have done more in the delegitimizing effort than any human alive. If the Republicans win in 2012, I sure hope Dr. Rice doesn't end up back where she can do this some more.
