'Our friends the Saudis' back Assad
Shavua tov, a good week to everyone.Given that Syria is so close to Iran, you might think that 'our friends the Saudis,' who supposedly hate Iran and are supposedly a staunch US ally, would be happy to see Bashar al-Assad deposed. But you'd be wrong. Muslim unity uber alles.
An editorial in the Saudi daily Al-Watan claimed that the U.S. has no right to reject the legitimacy of Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad, and that the Syrian people are the only ones who can do so.Isn't that what a million Syrians who took to the streets did on Friday? Why shouldn't other governments acknowledge that reality? Hmmm.
It should be mentioned that Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Al-Arabi recently made similar statements.
