Government gives up revenue source
The government decided it has enough economic problems on its hands and waived its right to increased taxes on the Electric Company's increased fees. As a result, our electric bills will 'only' be going up by 12.5% (retroactive to January 1) rather than the 19.5% or 23.5% which we had been warned about earlier.Electricity prices are set to rise 12.5% next week, instead of 19.5% requested by the Israel Electric Company. The 7% “discount” came as a result of the Treasury deciding not to impose additional taxes on diesel fuel. Final permission for the increase was given by a joint Finance and Environment Ministry committee. What could go wrong?
The increase is due to the rise in the price of oil on world markets, which has again struck the $100 a barrel level.
