Gadhafi distributing viagra to troops to encourage rape

This post is probably going to earn me a lot of spam comments.

Libyan dictator Muammar Gadhafi has been distributing viagra to his troops in a bid to encourage them to rape opposition women.
The rape allegation is not new. It was raised in the UN Security Council in April by US Ambassador Susan Rice, who said some of Gaddafi's troops had been issued with the impotency drug Viagra. Moreno-Ocampo said in an interview with Reuters on May 2 he was investigating the allegation.

At a UN news conference on Wednesday, he said the question until recently had been whether Gaddafi himself could be associated with the rapes "or is it something that happened in the barracks?"

"But now we are getting some information that Gaddafi himself decided" to authorize the rapes, "and this is new," Moreno-Ocampo said.

"It never was the pattern he used to control the population. The rape is a new aspect of the repression," he said. "Apparently, he decided to punish using rapes."

Moreno-Ocampo repeated the allegation of use of impotency drugs, saying his team was finding "some elements" confirming the purchase of "Viagra type of medicaments." He said there was evidence of Libya acquiring "containers" of such drugs "to enhance the possibility to rape women."

The prosecutor said it was difficult to know how widespread the rape was but he had received information there were several hundred victims in some areas.
Gadhafi could have accomplished the same thing by handing out copies of the Koran. It advocates raping captive women too. Maybe the troops were too tired.

What is this! it's not this kind of war, which permits taking slaves, Raping? No. Captives of war are known as "those which your right hand possess". Islam does allow female captives who are war booty, to be taken as slaves, for labor or for sexual concubinage. That said, they have certain rights, one of which is to refuse sex if she wants. Men can’t force them to have sex if they don’t want to. Concubines are usually non Muslim, if it’s a Muslim woman, its recommended he marry her. 4 wives permitted. No limit on concubines.

(Quran, 24:33)

" and do not compel your slave girls to prostitution, when they desire to keep chaste, in order to seek the frail good of this world's life; "

As for troops being too tired???

More coming...

Since Gadhaffi is said to be Halachically Jewish,

'Qaddafi is Jewish and I'm His Cousin'
http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/142593

why is he being judged by the Quran? Let's rephrase some words here:-

Gadhafi could have accomplished the same thing by handing out copies of the Torah. It advocates raping captive women too. No viagra is necessary because a month's grace period should ensure the troops won't be too tired to perform

How about that for a more fitting ending!

Devarim Chapter 21 דְּבָרִים

10 When thou goest forth to battle against thine enemies, and the LORD thy God delivereth them into thy hands, and thou carriest them away captive,

11 and seest among the captives a woman of goodly form, and thou hast a desire unto her, and wouldest take her to thee to wife;

12 then thou shalt bring her home to thy house; and she shall shave her head, and pare her nails;

13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month; and after that thou mayest go in unto her, and be her husband, and she shall be thy wife.

Explain the meaning of the this!

http://harova.org/torah/view.asp?id=1041

While upon first reflection, the use of the word "mitzvah" to describe the abduction and rape of a captive woman may seem bizarre, the fact is that the situation that the Torah describes is the basis of no less than three separate mitzvot cited by the Sefer HaChinuch (# 532-534 in the standard edition). In our shiur this week we will examine this issue and see if we can understand what the Torah wishes to teach us throught this mitzvah.

The Gemara in Kiddushin, (21b-22a) discusses the parameters of this case. What emerges is that the Torah recognizes that the unique circumstances of war create a situation where a man may be overcome by lust. The Torah therefore seeks to regulate this behavior by establishing ground rules by which the soldier may in fact satisfy his desires.

*

On the face of it, is difficult to find words which adequately convey the shock and horror that this halacha, and the Gemara's discussion of it, should engender. How can the Torah allow rape? Is this a value system to which we should aspire! Would we seek to justify a system which would condone such behavior on the part of our sons, or lay our daughters open to such violation by others under any circumstances?

On an intellectual level as well, the logic behind the statement "lo dibra Torah eleh k'neged Yetzer Hara" seems unfathomable. Is not the purpose of the Torah and Mitzvot precisely to confront and tame the Yetzer Hara, not to accommodate it? Taken to its logical extreme, all mitzvot may give way when the Yetzer Hara proves too strong. "Just say no" becomes "just do it". After all, who can be expected to resist the temptations around them?

Chayma,

He can have relations with her ONCE and only ONCE without her converting.

After that, he must marry her if he wants to continue to live with her - he cannot keep her as a concubine.

However, as I have noted previously, there is not a SINGLE RECORDED CASE of an IDF soldier raping a female Arab. And there most certainly isn't a SINGLE RECORDED CASE of the IDF encouraging it as Gadhafi is doing.

And I don't know where you got a month from.

@ shyguy

Are you cheering on Gadaffi? Since he is halachically YOUR brother why don’t you send him an aliya ticket and save all those women from being raped.

I suppose I should say thank you for tagging properly, not as before, "ror". Thank you :)

“He can have relations with her ONCE and only ONCE without her converting."

Does "relations" mean rape? I see nothing there giving an option for the woman to refuse, unlike in the Quran, where a man is told not to force her. So she is forced to convert then. Just so that's clear, he can rape, then he must marry her.

“After that, he must marry her if he wants to continue to live with her - he cannot keep her as a concubine."

More or less the same thing, she may convert to save her life but not be a sincere convert.

“However, as I have noted previously, there is not a SINGLE RECORDED CASE of an IDF soldier raping a female Arab.”

That may well be, but there isn’t a single reported case of an Egyptian solder raping, that’s what that was about if I remember.

“And there most certainly isn't a SINGLE RECORDED CASE of the IDF encouraging it as Gadhafi is doing.“

It doesn't seem fair to compare because there has been no civil war in Israel. What would happen if there were an internal war in Israel? Females who were protesting report sexual harassament during the last Gaza pullout, which is perhaps the nearest thing to an internal civil war, Israel has had. Let’s judge after there has been a civil war in Israel if oppostion females are raped or not. In the meantime there is this as a foreboding of what could happen:

General Staff document: Large rise in number of rapes in IDF
http://www.haaretz.com/news/general-staff-document-large-rise-in-number-of-rapes-in-idf-1.210809
Incidents of reported rape of women soldiers increased significantly in the first six months of 2006.

And I don't know where you got a month from.

Devarim -Chapter 21 דְּבָרִים

13 and she shall put the raiment of her captivity from off her, and shall remain in thy house, and bewail her father and her mother a full month; and after that thou mayest go in unto her,

No viagra necessary. One month is plenty of time for most men to get it up I’m sure, unless they are impotent!

Just because there are no recorded cases, doesn’t mean it has not happened or happens. It may well be that women won’t file cases out of shame or for fear of being disbelieved. Certainly there alleged cases, and even videos on Youtube, but no convictions which makes it difficult to say for certainty.

In any case, here is one such allegation was the rape/murder of several women in the Safsaf massacre in October 29, 1948. There have been similar accusations in the Deir Yassin. How many others have been suppressed….or not reported..??

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safsaf_massacre#cite_ref-Morris95:53_2-1
A key source are the diaries of Yosef Nahmani, a senior officer in the Haganah, who was also director of the Jewish National Fund in Eastern Galilee from 1935 until 1965. He visited Safsaf or the area around it on November 6, accompanied by the Israeli Minority Affairs minister Bechor-Shalom Sheetrit. The men were briefed by Immanuel Friedman, a representative of the Minority Affairs ministry, who talked about "the cruel acts of our soldiers." The Nachmani diary was released by the Israeli government in the early 1980s. It had been published before, but with the passages about the massacre omitted.[3]

On November 6, 1948, Nachmani wrote: "In Safsaf, after ... the inhabitants had raised a white flag, the [soldiers] collected and separated the men and women, tied the hands of fifty-sixty fellahin [peasants] and shot and killed them and buried them in a pit. Also, they raped several women..." After listing alleged atrocities in other villages—Eilaboun, Farradiyya, and Saliha—Nachmani writes: "Where did they come by such a measure of cruelty, like Nazis? ... Is there no more humane way of expelling the inhabitants than by such methods?"[4]

Moshe Erem reported on the massacre to a meeting of the Mapam Political Committee but his words were removed from the minutes. According to notes of the meeting taken by Aharon Cohen, Erem spoke of: "Safsaf 52 men tied together with a rope. Pushed down a well and shot. 10 killed. Women pleaded for mercy. 3 cases of rape . . . . A girl of 14 raped. Another four killed."[5]

what about this report, it's not a convicted case, but it sounds credible, especially when you hear from whistleblowers like Victor Ostrovsky (Israeli Canadian Russian, living under death threat for publishing books about Mossad) who know how the military intelligence use blackmail and bribes to get what they want,

Israeli Guards Rape Palestinian Women
http://www.turks.us/article.php?story=20040520135340986

"Israeli investigators and intelligence officers keep video tapes of the raping to blackmail the female detainees," she told IslamOnline.net, requesting anonymity.

"I have been sexually abused and photographed. When I tried to travel to Jordan after my release and Israeli intelligence officer dumfounded my with the humiliating photos."

She asserted that this techniques has been used for years by the Israeli interrogators against Palestinian detainees.

Absurd allegations against Qaddafi
http://samsonblinded.org/news/absurd-allegations-against-qaddafi-22412
Allegedly, Qaddafi imported several containers of sexual stimulants. That translates into millions of doses. But the prosecution claims a few hundred instances of rape at most. Clearly the stimulants, if they existed at all, were used as energy boosters during military activities.

Samson Blinded thinks the rape allegations are a plot. See links I posted above. What sayeth ye in response to this since you endorse him?

Oh, and regarding your choice of vocabulary:

“He can have relations with her ONCE"

I don't think "relations" was the right word to use here. It implies consentual sex and a horny woman. It's funny where rape is permissable it becomes "relations" and where it is not permitted and where the concubine or slave is given some say in the matter, it's called "rape".
