Did Mosab Hassan Yousef fool us all (except Debbie Schlussel)?

As many of you know, I don't believe in flushing posts down the memory hole. If I wrote it, I have to live with it. I wrote several paeans to alleged Hamas turncoat Mosab Hassan Yousef (that link should bring up several of them). And I may have gotten the man wrong. Very very wrong. In fact, the only person I know who apparently got the man right from the get-go was Debbie Schlussel. And to their credit, Pajamas Media, which was one of Mosab's boosters, has published the expose that has me rethinking my support for Mosab (Hat Tip: Cheryl H).
Mosab did not convert to what the West would recognize as Christianity, but to a fiery, Palestinian brand of the faith that is vehemently anti-Israel. According to Mosab, his main goal in coming to the U.S. is to infiltrate the main source of international support for Israel: the American church. From an interview with Al-Arabiya:
During my tours in universities and even churches, [I found] the real support for Israel stems from the church in the West. … We need to understand the difference between “revenge” and “resistance” and once the Palestinians do, we will have our victory against Israel.
Activists like Mosab know very well that Western media rarely translate their doublespeak. He continues:
Israel is the problem and as an occupation it needs to end. … There are many ways to do this besides the coward explosive operations.
Mosab’s formula? Infiltrate the West with his book:
This will be the first time in history that a Palestinian book will find success so that the Western reader can see for himself the reality of what goes on over there. People in the West do not know what happens over there.
And the book itself - which I now own but have not yet read? Full of lies.
Mosab’s book Son of Hamas — published in English — does not express Mosab’s views as openly as his Arabic statements do, and the book is additionally littered with factual errors and exaggerations.

For example: Mosab portrays the Jerusalem prison as a center for torture and persecution of Palestinians. The reality is much kinder; each inmate has his own bed and an in-the-cell shower as well.

I know this — I was a prisoner there myself.

We ate three full meals a day, and drank tea or sweet punch. And Mosab fails to mention that the Maskubia had Jewish inmates as well, who received the same treatment as the Palestinians and ate out of the same menu. Yes, you were beaten by security when lives were at stake: I witnessed first-hand Israeli soldiers in the corridor beating an inmate who attempted to kill his cellmate (I was selected to clean the mess afterward). What was so shocking to me at the time? The attempted murderer was a Jew.

I have never heard of Israelis killing Palestinians in prison. Yet Palestinian prisoners do kill each other, as Mosab himself describes. Palestinian inmates killed my landlord Muneer Abu-Sayb’a from Bethlehem, yet his death was blamed on Israel. My friend Basem Hanuneh was brutally murdered — his privates removed and stuffed in his mouth — which was also blamed on Israel.
And Mosab's ultimate goal?
Mosab is now touring churches to end Israel’s lifeline. Many Jews and Christians in the West are unable to determine friend from foe in the Mideast; they are not able to read what is said in Arabic. They must seek translations, and must be aware of double agents like Mosab.
Read the whole thing. Those last two sentences are a good takeaway for all of us from this story. Never believe one of these people unless you have a reliable translation of what they're saying in Arabic.

But one small word of caution. As of this writing, Debbie hasn't written about this story (I'm sure she will later today), but the article I quoted was written by Walid Shoebat. Debbie isn't exactly a fan of his either. Hmmm.

What a bunch of crap. I'm a Christian Zionist and Walid is the one to be wary of, not Mosab! It never ceases to amaze me that Israel and Jewish Zionists in general get it backwards about which Christians (or people who call themselves Christians) to trust. Wake up!

Orde,

I'm really curious. Why are you so confident of Mosab? Have you seen what he's said in Arabic? I have not, which is why I'm trying to reserve judgment, but this does not look good.

Carl, it's still midday Friday here in Florida, plus I'm not Jewish, so I hope it's ok to reply at this hour.
I am confident in Mosab (but moreso, in God) for many reasons:
(1) when Mosab talks, he *speaks* Bible verses, they flow (as in he's not citing them word for word to show off with citations, but he's integrating the gist of them as if he's internalized the Word)
(2) Yes, I not only have seen many videos of Mosab in Arabic, including one in which he was dressed in the disgusting (to me) keffiyeh, but I also had the most comprehensive collection of Mosab videos on YouTube (nearly 200) before I closed my account, I read his book the very first day of release, have followed his blog, & listened to every interview & church presentation by him I could find.
(3) don't know why this doesn't look good, it's no new revelation about Mosab - he's always held the position that the Palestinians are an oppressed party here & under "occupation" -- that fact that he has been so open about his wrong (but understandable) perception of the situation is praiseworthy -- i.e., he's not sincere, just sincerely wrong. When a person from a non-Christian backgrounnd (such as myself) becomes a Christian we have LOTS of errors we God rids us of, but it takes time...for ex, our heart is to trust in whatever God reveals, but b/c we don't know all the Bible at first we think we can believe both evolution and creationism & so might hold to any of several such belief mixes before reading further into the Bible and realizing that's not an option -- i.e., the faithful God bit by bit clarifies things to us as we study His word, & He who began a good work in Mosab will be faithful to complete it. Most likely, Mosab will have his eyes opened, fall to his knees in repentance & gratitude & become a passionate, powerful Zionist & healer.

@Orde...a Christian does not mean that you are Zionist. I certainly am not. Have you been to the territories? Have you seen the humiliation at checkpoints, students that can't get educations, adults who can't get to work? Do you know residents in Bethlehem recently did not have water for over 40 days due to Israeli's restrictions?

I'm so sick of Christians just praising Israel for everything they do even when wrong. Even God condemned them! Many are atheists or secular and discriminate against Christians as well. Why support those who don't know their Messiah? Let's support ALL believers, whether from Israel proper or from the territories, as brothers and sisters. Now THAT is what God has called us to do.
