Facebook campaign for third intifadeh gets 40,000 signatures in three days

Israel Television has just reported (Wednesday night - simulcast on radio) that a Facebook campaign calling for a third intifadeh (uprising) against Israel has garnered some 40,000 signatures in three days.

According to the report, the Facebook page claims that they have been promised publicity by an Arab television network - presumably al-Jazeera - if they reach 100,000 signatures.

The Facebook page warns that if it is taken down, a worldwide Muslim boycott against Facebook will be declared. It is not clear whether the anonymous people who put up the Facebook page have the ability to back up that threat.

What could go wrong?

UPDATE 10:33 PM

I don't read Arabic, but that Facebook page is here.

I wonder how many of those 40,000 signatures are from Palestinian Arabs. Its easy for other Arabs to sign the Facebook campaign - it costs them nothing to make an anti-Israel statement.

But for Palestinian Arabs another intifada could set them back decades and end their statehood dream.

We'll see how much traction it will really get on the ground.
