Google Street View coming to Israel?

Google Street View, the people who catch you with your pants down and put you on the internet (if you don't believe me, do an image search), may be coming to Israel. Of course, we have different concerns than the rest of you.
A ministerial task force headed by Intelligence Minister Dan Meridor begins work this week to determine whether the benefits outweigh the risks of enabling Google Street View to show viewers clear shots of streets in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Other members of the committee include Moshe Kahlon, Yossi Peled, Limor Livnat, Michael Eitan and Stas Misezhnikov.

The issue, unlike that in many other countries, is not whether the service will invade one's privacy, although that concern will be discussed. Instead, the government's main concern is about the security of those who inhabit buildings in high-risk environments, such as areas where embassies are located.

Terrorists might use the service to plan suicide bombings or other attacks against major Israeli figures, security officials say. Task force members begin discussing on Monday which streets and buildings, in which cities, the government will allow Google to photograph.

If Google gets the green light, it is likely to face tight restrictions, however, with blackouts on areas such as those with power stations, consulates, embassies and other high-security establishments.

According to the TechEYE.net website, Google last year bought local startup Quiksee, "hoping that the company's software could be used to look into buildings."

The website, which called Street View a "spying service," claimed Google "has had its all spying eye on Israel for a while."
I really hope the government decides to take a pass on this one.

What could go wrong?

The street view's are cool tho. Our address and street are covered so you can see our apartment with a full 360 degree view and then proceed down the street. For sure, it's also an interactive photo surveillance record of any area you want secured. But cool.

Israel shouldn't let them. They are not pro-Jewish in America. They helped protest on the side of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and against Mubarak.
You should never let your enemies have any true information about you. This information will be available to all on the internet. Do you really want these scum to make your rules of engagement? They should never be allowed to have authority over you. Never let the goyim have power or authority over you. It is a shanda.

Does Israel really want to allow its enemies to see where its high-value targets are? I don't think Israel needs Google Street View.

No! Reject this in Israel. While it might be "cool" elsewhere, it is terribly dangerous for Israelis to allow this invasion of privacy. It is even more dangerous now that we know that at least 2 Google executives were involved in organizing the upheaval that overthrew the Egyptian government. Keep Google out.

a friend of mine has purchased an apt on rav cook, i went to google earth to see a closeup of the street

lo and behold, there is no sharp view from the satellite photo...so i guess israel makes sure that for security purposes, there is no way to take a great pic of the state (unlike my city of sf, where i was able to clearly see my street, and the park across the street from my old home)

why would they let street view do their thing...its a security risk
