Circumstantial evidence

Eli Lake provides what must at least be regarded as circumstantial evidence that connects Israel to the Stuxnet computer worm, which has been wreaking havoc with Iran's nuclear program.
The Internet site WikiLeaks disclosed last month a State Department cable confirming that Israel has waged a covert war against Iran's nuclear program under Mr. Dagan.

The cable, which recounted a Aug. 17, 2007, meeting between Undersecretary of State Nicholas Burns and Mr. Dagan said the Israeli spy chief outlined Israel's five-pillar strategy for preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

Those five pillars included both something the memo called "covert measures" and "force regime change," or support for elements of Iran's opposition.

In the meeting, Mr. Dagan said, the United States and Israel had different estimated timelines for when Iran would acquire a nuclear weapon. "The threat is obvious, even if we have a different timetable," the cable quotes Mr. Dagan as saying.
Hmmm.

The team/individual who developed the Stuxnet computer virus will one day have his story told. Like the Mossad agents who avenged Munich(or, further back, Isser Harrel's brilliant team who brought Eichman to justice, the outgoing head of the Mossad has much to be proud of. His work on the Syrian reactor and clandestine work with Stuxnet and ongoing campaign against nuclear scientists, delaying, possibly by several years, Iran's nuclear bomb should bring pride to Israel's intel service and those in the know in Western friendly services.

My own pet theory is there may be an inverse relationship in Iran between experts in quantum mechanics/nuclear technology and religiosity. By definition, these folks must train in foreign countries for many, many years. The process of vanishings and killings of these PhD's must be creating a sense of shock/doom in their community.

Mossad and company demoralized the scientific community in Iran, ruined the crucial hardware that refines the uranium via the Stuxnet computer virus, forcing Iran to possibly return to square one and even beyond since they don't know how bad the infection is.

By stealth, cunning, and genius, Israel appears to be doing the impossible!

The other chapters of the clandestine effort against Iran would be the Dubai/Kuwait gulf states and Saudi Arabia who do not want their finger prints on the Mossad effort and what help the internal dissident efforts might be with the Baluchis and company. It will one day prove to be a fascinating read.

Finally, don't forget something else: the years matter. There is no immutable law of the universe the Shia religious Mullahs will reign forever.
