'Palestinians' try to fight eviction from home that they sold

The 'Palestinian' Maan news service reports that a 'Palestinian' family was evicted from a home in the Jabal Mukkabar neighborhood of Jerusalem (near East Talpiyot) on Tuesday. The reason for the eviction was quite simple: The family's deceased uncle had sold the home to Jews.
Faadi Kara'in, 21, told AFP his uncle had sold the three-story property for $450,000, but the family had been trying to fight the sale in court.

"We lost," he said. "In court, they said they had paid half of the money to my uncle Ali, and they wanted to pay the rest to us, but we refused."

Ali Kara'in died three months ago of a heart attack, he said.

Sharon said the Kara'in family had been locked in a legal battle over the property with the right-wing Elad movement, which pushes Jewish settlement in Palestinian East Jerusalem.

"We saw people from Elad inside the house coordinating things. They seemed heavily involved."

But a spokesman for Elad denied the group had acquired the house, telling AFP it had been purchased by a Jerusalem-based lawyer acting on behalf of a US property group, Wohl Investment Co.

The lawyer could not immediately be reached for comment.
I don't know who the lawyer is, but the Wohl family are known philanthropists and I know of at least one yeshiva in Jerusalem whose study hall bears their name.

But anyplace else in the World, this story would be straightforward and not very newsworthy. You signed a contract to sell your house for full price, you took half the money down, and now you want to back out of the deal. What are the odds of you being able to do that? Just about anyplace else in the World, they'd be slim to none. The government has nothing to do with this - it's a private transaction. Let them all go spit on Uncle Ali's grave if they don't like it.

Yup. They have no case. If you sold it, you're not going to get back. The Palestinians think they don't have to live by the rules every one else has to live by. I have no sympathy for them. No one compelled their uncle to sell the home.
