Locking the freezer door

A bill has been introduced in the Knesset by MK Uri Ariel (National Union) to require Knesset approval for any freeze of any length.

While that sounds like an attractive proposition, I doubt it will help much. Knesset members are beholden to parties and not to people, and if the ruling party decides it wants a freeze, it will call the vote a no confidence vote, thereby forcing coalition members to abstain or absent themselves from the vote if they do not want to vote in favor.

Requiring a 61-member vote in favor (a Knesset majority) would be more effective, but it's unlikely that the current government would allow such a rule to pass.

A super majority would be more effective to thwart one but in reality, the best safeguard the revanants have now is not Israeli law, which Israel's political class can disregard with impunity when it serves its interests but rather a combination of American fecklessness and Palestinian intransigence.

As long as those factors persist, we're not going to see the revanant freeze reimposed for the foreseeable future.

Well, the freeze seems to have gone to ground. Maybe President Obama has been convinced for now to at least lock the barn door after he lets out the horses and walk away inconspicuously. Funny thing about that linkage...
