Erekat: 'We'll ask the US to recognize a Palestinian state'
'Palestinian' chiefThe Palestinian Authority plans to ask the US to recognize a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders in the event that "Netanyahu and the Israelis decide to choose settlements over peace," Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat said in an interview with Army Radio aired on Monday. But without the US, any declaration would be meaningless and the only way the US will go along will be after November 2012 - unless Obama decides before then that he's a one-term President.
"If the Americans can't do that," added Erekat, "we may turn to the UN Security Council."
Erekat stated that while the Security Council cannot legally declare a Palestinian state, its permanent members can call on other nations to individually recognize a Palestinian state.
The Palestinian negotiator said that a third option would be to turn to the UN General Assembly, which does have the authority to recognize a Palestinian state.
What could go wrong?

I am not sure that if Obama sided with a unilateral declaration of independence by the Palestinians, it would have any negative consequence on his reelection. Suppose that the Palestinians, in a first stage, decided to claim all the territory they were awarded by the UN in 1948 as the core of their future state. Why would Obama stand in the way? He would simply say that the Palestinians are reclaiming what is righfully there's. No negative consequence.
Then, let's assume that he would force Netanyahu to not only stop the settlements but start dismantling the "extreme-right-wing settlers" in Judea and Samaria. Any negative reaction there? Nope. Etc...
I think that this "death by a thousand cuts" being planned by the Palis/Obama will be very effective and presents a real existential challenge to Israel.
Why is Israel allowing the Palestinians to issue threats and keep on trying to appease them with Jewish land?
What could go wrong indeed
Meanwhile, Tinkerbell has announced that unless Peter Pan and Wendy immediately end their repressive Judeo-Zionist occupation of Neverland, she will request that the Lost Boys meet in a ceremonial conclave to cry "hurrah" and clap their hands with a mighty, resounding clap, thus immediately freeing Tink and all the other imaginary creatures and denizens of Neverland, from their conditions of servitude and oppression.
"Neverland is nothing more than one big open air prison" complained the Tink.
Former President Carter and other present and future has-beens from the EU immediately announced plans to travel to Neverland to offer support to Ms.T. Bell.
