Special program in Toronto

I want to call your attention to a special program that is taking place in Toronto on Thursday night.
Zion: Home or Harm to the Jews? A public discussion

Rabbi Daniel Gordis and Peter Beinart

Thur. Oct 28, 2010 at 8 p.m.

In this current difficult and contentious moment, are North American Jews feeling harmed by the State of Israel, rather than seeing her as our second home, the Jewish homeland of which we are proud? Id so, is that fair? And is Zionism antithetical to the next generation or still a possibility, perhaps even a necessity?

Rabbi Daniel Gordis is Senior Vice President of the Shalem Center in Jerusalem and is the author of several popular books on Jewish thought and current events in Israel.

Peter Beinart, is the former editor of the New Republic. His article, “The Failure of the American ish Establishment” in the New York Review of Books set off a major debate among Jews this past spring.
I've discussed Dr. Gordis' book many times on this blog, and I wrote a(n uncomplimentary) response to the Beinart essay when it first came out.

This is taking place at the Holy Blossom Temple, To register please call 416-789-3291 (ext. 532). Please check http://www.holyblossom.org for more details.

And remember to ask your Rabbi or Posek whether you should step foot into a reform temple, such as "Holy Blossom", or parts therein.

This has been a public service announcement.

I live in Toronto and know Holy Blossom. I'll convert to Islam before I set foot in that place. If you think Beinart is anti-semitic (which he is) you would be shocked at some of the other speakers and events they hold in that place. It's a disgrace.

I've seen many excellent events at Holly Blossom including Charles Krauthammer! The venue is surely not nearly as important as the speakers at the events.
