Amona 'not a priority'
Four years ago, border police nearly killed several Israelis who were trying to prevent the destruction of nine buildings in a neighborhood called Amona, near Ofra in Samaria. On Sunday, the State's Attorney's office told the High Court of Justice that the rebuilt neighborhood is not being evacuated because it is 'not a priority.'The State Prosecutor's Office said to the High Court that there is no intention to evacuate the Amona outpost which was erected on private Palestinian land despite the fact that it was known to be an illegal construction. It said the State is not avoiding its obligation to enforce planning and construction laws in the region, but that the evacuation of the outpost was not a high priority. But can the court bear to keep its nose out of a political question? Hmmm.
The State Prosecutor's Office noted that construction in the West Bank had become central to the political process, thus "the government's policy regarding acts which change the existing situation on the ground takes wider national interests into account."

On a related note, Carl - here is a hat tip for you - Yoel Meltzer argues the best course for Israel to take is to annex Judea and Samaria. A two state solution however you spell it, he argues convincingly, ultimately means national suicide for Israel. Israel would have a 30-35% Arab minority if Yesha was annexed but that's a problem that can ultimately be addressed, managed and eventually solved. Leaving the demographic issue aside, Israel needs Yesha for economic, quality of life and security reasons. Plus of course the fact this is the area identified with much of biblical and Jewish history. The Palestinians don't want a state and Israel should stop wasting time, terminate the 43 year old military occupation and do what it should have done in the first place after the Six Day War.
In the end, the Arabs are not the problem. Its the Jews who recoil from accept G-d's gift who are. There's more here - lots more: Read it all
There is no room for a Palestinian state west of the Jordan River. And once established, that bell cannot be unrung. For all its drawbacks, the annexation of Yesha is the only viable way to secure Israel's future as a Jewish State.
