Israeli college schedule includes 'Nakba day' and 'Land day'
Colleges and universities in Israel opened their fall semster ten days ago. At the Tel Hai Academic College near Israel's border with Lebanon, students were surprised to discover that their academic calendar included
two holidays that had never been part of the academic calendar: 'Nakba day,' which is observed on May 14 each year to commemorate the 'nakba' (catastrophe) that befell the Arabs with the establishment of the State of Israel, and 'Land day,' which is celebrated on March 30 each year to commemorate a violent 'Israeli Arab' protest against Israeli land allocation policies in the Galilee.
Students at Tel Hai College in the North discovered Wednesday that the Student Union's annual calendar includes anti-Israel festive events including "Nakba and Land Day", which depict the founding of the State of Israel as a disaster.
Angry students responded by turning in their student cards, saying: "It is inconceivable that in a place that has become a symbol of Zionist bravery they glorify celebration’s of Israel's enemies."
The College administration says the calendar was made without their knowledge and will be recalled.
All's well that ends well? Maybe. The real question is who was responsible in the first place. So far, there's no indication of that.
