US to impose deal on 'settlement freeze'?

The 'Palestinian' Maan news service hints that the United States may impose a solution to the 'settlement freeze' issue.
American mediators may step in and offer a solution to the settlements issue, an informed source told Ma'an on Wednesday.

Citing what the source called precedents in the talks in both Washington and Egypt, the source said that on a growing number of occasions mediators had intervened during crisis points, and offered median solutions to the issues at hand.

"It is distinctly possible that [the US] will present proposals on the settlement issue, under which Israel would be committed to stop expansions beyond their current borders, as well as limit vertical expansion," as a cap system forcing settlement construction to fill-in already occupied areas of Palestinian land.
Israel Radio reported at midnight that the United States 'suggested' two solutions: a limited-time extension of the freeze, or the freeze being modified to allow Israel to continue building in towns that Israel believes it will keep under any final agreement. Neither side has agreed to these solutions yet.

Israel Radio also reported that Abu Mazen threatened Netanyahu again that the 'Palestinians' would walk out of the talks if Israel did any building in Judea and Samaria.

Having demanded a freeze in the first place, Obama has only himself to blame.

Israel should call Abu Bluff's bluff. If he wants to walk out of the talks because Jews are building in towns that will be ceded to Israel anyway, he will lose what he wants from Israel. And threats are not the way to win your opponent over. Something the Palestinians have yet to learn.

What could go wrong indeed

And what are the "palestinians" giving? Or is this just another one sided deal, where Israel gives something and the PA doesn't even have to say thank you? Had the PA not wasted 9 of the 10 months of the building freeze it wouldn't even be an issue at this stage of the talks.
