Plea bargain for a traitor

Remember Ugly Betty Anat Kam? For those who don't, Kam stands accused of leaking some 2,000 confidential IDF documents to a Haaretz reporter during her IDF service. The reporter is still hiding out in England where he has been for the last nine months.

Channel 2 reported on Monday night that Kam is being offered a plea bargain.
A plea-bargain agreement is developing between prosecutors and Anat Kam, who was charged with passing classified information to Haaretz reporter Uri Blau when she left the army, according to a Monday evening report by Channel 2 television. Under the agreement, Kam will admit to a revised charge that does not include "the intention of harming state security." The agreement, which does not address a sentence, is expected to be presented to the court system next week.

The station also reported progress between the state and attorneys for Blau, who fled the country to avoid prosecution.
Funny that no one offered 14-year old Chaya or Margalit Har Shefi - both of whom did much less to endanger the country's security - a plea bargain.

But that's just one example of the double standard at work in the Israeli 'justice system.' Here's another one - also from today. Israel Radio reported today (Tuesday) morning that the police are out in force to prevent demonstrators against the 'peace negotiations' from blocking highways in protest. You will recall that two months ago, the police shut down a major highway (the Jerusalem - Tel Aviv highway) at the height of rush hour to allow the Shalit family and their supporters to march in protest of 'government inaction' on Shalit's release.

The longer I live in this country, the more amazed I become at the blatantly unfair manner in which the law is applied here. When it comes to treating people fairly, we are on the level of a banana republic. The law is often selectively enforced.

What could go wrong?

the only plea bargain this traitor should be able to make is that they use the short rope as opposed to the long one.

anyone who has ever applied for security clearance in Israel knows that treachery in a time of war is a capitol offence... whether or not you believe your actions are noble and for the better good of the country
