Netanyahu would 'bring any accord to the people'

Prime Minister Netanyahu's office has announced that he will bring any accord that he reaches with the 'Palestinians' 'to the people:'
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will take any accord he reaches with the Palestinian Authority to the Knesset and then to the people, an official in the Prime Minister’s Office said on Saturday night.

The official said Netanyahu believes that if he reached an agreement with the PA that brings peace and protects Israel’s national security interests, it would enjoy wide public support.

The official would not elaborate on whether “bringing the accord to the people” meant a referendum or early elections.
The creaking you heard was Ariel Sharon rolling over in his bed. He too vowed to bring any accord 'to the people.' The only time he actually did bring something to a referendum (the expulsion of Gaza's Jews was brought to a Likud party referendum in 2004), he ignored the results.

What could go wrong?

As a practical matter, no agreement with the Palestinians is in sight this year, next year, this decade or for the rest of this century. The gaps are simply too wide to be bridged. We've already seen the renewal of the talks accompanied by Palestinian threats to walk out if Israel does not give them 100% of their demands. And you can be sure chief bottle washer Erekat will not be there to really negotiate.

What could go wrong indeed
