Turkey is threatening to send another flotilla of fools, this time accompanied by the Turkish Navy (Hat Tip: Memeorandum). Two Turkish activists were reported to be among those killed in the flotilla. Ankara warned that further supply vessels will be sent to Gaza, escorted by the Turkish Navy, a development with unpredictable consequences.
Does Israel want a war with Turkey? They can’t win it, short of using nukes, and Turkey is a NATO member, if Israel attacks NATO ships, Turkey can invoke Article V (in fact, they can invoke it already, since the ships were attacked by a non NATO power on the high seas.) If Turkey does so, of course NATO nations will refuse, but doing so will break NATO.Here's the provision of the NATO treaty.

Article 5He's right that NATO nations will refuse to attack Israel for what was clearly about to become a violation of Israel's territorial waters.
The Parties agree that an armed attack against one or more of them in Europe or North America shall be considered an attack against them all and consequently they agree that, if such an armed attack occurs, each of them, in exercise of the right of individual or collective self-defence recognised by Article 51 of the Charter of the United Nations, will assist the Party or Parties so attacked by taking forthwith, individually and in concert with the other Parties, such action as it deems necessary, including the use of armed force, to restore and maintain the security of the North Atlantic area.
Article 6 (1)
For the purpose of Article 5, an armed attack on one or more of the Parties is deemed to include an armed attack:
...on the forces, vessels, or aircraft of any of the Parties, when in or over...the Mediterranean Sea
In light of Article 5 referring to the North Atlantic area, I question whether Article 6(1) would extend to Israel's shores.
More importantly, I question whether at least some NATO countries might not be happy to have a now Islamist Turkey out of NATO.
On the other hand, would Obama go to war with Israel? Well, maybe.

If Turkey wants war with Israel, they are welcome. Israel is going to defend itself with all the means at its disposal. We can only hope cooler heads prevail in Ankara but just in case they don't, Israel should make it clear that any nation escorting a Hamas supply convoy will be fair game for the IDF.

The cold war with Russia is over. Europe doesn't need Turkey. It never was a reliable ally anyway.

It should be quietly suggested to Turkey that the surest way to a war between nations is to impose itself into a conflict that is none of its business. If they bring their navy uninvited into Israeli territorial waters without Israeli or IDF permission, the boats will be sunk, and a defacto state of war will exist.
Further, any additional statements or actions on the part of Turkey that suggest they will help to try to break the blockade will assumed to be an act of aggression, and will be treated as such.
Turkey is an islamist country. NATO membership notwithstanding, they are, as are all muslim, arab, and islamist countries, dangerous and unreliable allies at best.
Turkey represents the most profound political failure of the EU to date, though they are working hard at making 'palestine' their next major failure. The EU demanded the army step back from politics in Turkey. The army was the only bulwark against a rising islamist polity. Which, once it had to step back, there was nothing to stop the ascendency of islamists to power.
Good job EU ... good job. Look what you created.
Israel should remember this, and not simply disregard the EU's blatherings, but take them to task for destroying a democracy in the name of their misguided foreign policy. And Israel should point out that on this basis as well as many others, the EU's inputs into its affairs are neither desired, warranted, nor accepted.
It would be a shame to fight Turkey, but it looks to be inevitable. Indonesia and Malasia are in defacto states of war with Israel, refusing to recognize it, assuming the anti-semitic OIC narrative as being accurate and correct. If they had armies/navies to send against Israel, they would. Why? Because they are islamist.
