Fighting to save Mosab

One of the people I follow on Twitter is William Daroff. Aside from being a great source of information on the organized Jewish community in the US, Daroff is Jewish Federation of North America's vice president for public policy and director of its Washington office (and he doesn't tweet on the Sabbath). While I'm not a big fan of Federation (largely because of their policy of not spending money beyond the 'green line'), Daroff deserves credit for going to bat for 'Son of Hamas' Mosab Hassan Yousef, who faces a deportation hearing on Wednesday in San Diego. Daroff especially deserves credit because as far as I can tell, most of the rest of the organized Jewish community in the US has been silent about Mosab.
Daroff, in an interview Friday, questioned DHS's overly firm stance, and called prosecutors "bureaucratic automatons" who are incapable of seeing nuance.

"They are apparently colorblind and unable to see nuance," Daroff said, explaining that Yousef clearly risked his life to prevent terrorist attacks during his time as a Shin Bet informant.

Government prosecutors, he added, "don't seem to have the insight to turn the page [on Yousef] and see the addendum to his resume."

In the JFNA letter, Daroff writes that "Mr. Yousef's conduct in preventing acts of terror by cooperating with the Israeli government would definitely place him in grave danger should he be forced to return to the Middle East."

Daroff, in our interview, added that government denial of Yousef's asylum request would certainly send a disquieting message to other would-be spies.

"We should motivate other terrorists to turn the corner and change their lives," Daroff said. "The message that our government should be sending to people who at this moment are plotting to blow up civilians is not, 'No matter what you do we will treat you like a pariah,' but rather should be, 'Stop killing people, turn a page in your life and we will reward your courage.' "
Has anyone else from the organized Jewish community in the US come out in Mosab's defense? Why not?

so what is the connection between the UJA, B'nai Brith and the NIF?

Daroff is no hero.

Remember when the UJA Federation of NY sponsored an antisemitic blood libel film?

"Jewish" establishment organizations such as the UJA/UJC/Jewish Federations of North America, etc., help fund the No Israel Fund

details http://www.thejidf.org/2010/05/uja-federation-sponsors-no-israel-fund.html

Daroff a man who was in the White House that had Baker as Secretary of state... his politics are very questionable.

What is worse is I have had a personal interaction with him publicly on twitter where he claimed I was stalking his 12 year old daughter. What kind of person says this about another Jew in public when it wasn't even true?

Thanks for the kind words and the appreciation for my twittering. We will continue to do our part to help the "Son of Hamas".

As for the other comments here, I did not work in the Bush 41 White House. I have never met with NIF, nor attended one of their events, nor has The Jewish Federations of North America (my employer) ever contributed any funds to them or collaborated with them.

The fellow did make some questionable tweets about my daughter - which I found to be out of bounds, and for which I "blocked" him on twitter. I must say that my twitter experience is much more pleasant without having to read incessant Jew vs Jew hatred coming from his quarter and that of his ilk. I am on twitter to try to make the world a better place - to communicate with Jews and non-Jews alike - not to be baited by would-be Sanhedrinists who believe that they know the only way to salvation, and everyone else is an apostate.

I very much enjoy the Zionist and Jewish community that has developed on twitter - and look forward to more joining me at http://www.twitter.com/daroff

Thanks again!

that was very good Daroff but just a babble of words as far as I am concerned. We are just asking you questions, like why's the JFed & its agencies hanging out with New Israel Fund & why are you endorsing people that sit down with terrorists? After all, there should be some oversight somewhere on your expense account.
