Can Israel survive a second Obama term?

Professor William Jacobson questions whether Israel can survive a second term (God forbid) of Barack Obama.
Is there anyone who would be surprised to see a regional war?

Except this time it will be more widespread, involving not just Arab countries such as Syria, but also Iran and possibly Turkey. It seems highly unlikely that Egypt and Jordan would join such fight at the outset, but if Israel were so badly damaged that it became vulnerable, would these countries honor their peace treaties, or deliver the coup de grĂ¢ce?

Will Israel find itself in the same position in which it found itself in 1973, where its very existence depended upon the President of the United States ordering a military resupply?

...

Obama administration oratory and actions have rekindled hope for the destruction of Israel, and thereby unleashed the beast.

The damage done so far may not be irreparable, but we are on an incredibly destructive trajectory.

I really wonder whether Israel can survive a second Obama term.
I don't think anyone here worries about Israel being wiped out (God forbid) in a conventional war. People here are worried about a nuclear Iran.

And the biggest concern has to be limitations that are or may be placed on us by the United States.

I expect that Israelis will get involved in the 2012 campaign in an attempt to defeat President Obama even if our government cannot formally do so. I certainly plan to try. But at the rate Iran is going, the test may well come before the 2012 elections.

What could go wrong?

I believe the threats from Turkey and Iran are bravado and nothing much will come of them. As long as Israel stands firm, the present manufactured crisis will pass. Until the next one comes along. That is the only thing people have to know about life in the Middle East.

I think the real question is whether the US can survice another term of BHO. The US is on track for loosing its status as superpower as it will soon be unable to afford its military. At that point, it will also be unable to support friendly countries who depend on its financial help.
I think that Israel is at a crucial point in its history. If it can shake its dependence from the US both economically and militarilly, then it has a chance to survice regardless of what happens to the quickly-dwindling US. So Netanyahu should focus on speeding up armament plants and the entire defense industry. He should also work diligently on securing other sources for weapons and raw material.
BHO will be remembered as the man who single-handedly destroyed 60-70 years of western and democratic dominance of the world by killing the US economy and its allies while propping up its enemies and the enemies of democracy and the rule of law.

Seeing they have just located Osama Bin Laden in Iran where those lovely Iranians have been hiding him, I am predicting America will be shortly making him glow in the dark. And despite Obama, America will be on the right side after all. Baruch HaShem, you are the G-d that really sees.
