Obama encouraging Bibi to attack Iran?
Here's an interesting thought. By my reading, Bibi is in a very bad place right now. His options are either 1) total public humiliation and agreement to demands that could topple his government, followed by a diplomatic process that would force potentially lethal concessions on Israel, or 2) the U.S. preventing him from attacking Iran and removing the diplomatic shield that protects Israel from the deranged anti-Semitism of Europe and the Middle East (two increasingly indistinguishable regions).So did the attack on Iran get a lot closer this week? It sure seems like it.
There is a third scenario: Israel completely reshuffles the deck by attacking Iran.

I posted that earlier and to my way of thinking, if the US is going to come out against Israel, there is no longer any reason for Israel to be deferential on Iran. Just the opposite.
In other words, Obama's bashing of Israel may very well lead to the very Israeli attack upon Iran he seeks to prevent or at the least forestall. My feeling is that is just a matter of time now.
Obama now has some cover and can claim he does not support an attack on Iran. It won't matter - Iran will still blame and retaliate against both U.S. and Israel. Maybe that was Obama's plan all along. Maybe Bibi is in cahoots. Maybe pigs fly. Obama is out of his depth. More likely, Bibi is playing him.
There's more news this morning about Iran. According to John Bolton, the real reason for last week's pressure on Netanyahu wasn't over Jerusalem but rather was intended to keep Israel from attacking Iran because the US has resigned itself to a "nuclear Iran." Here is the money quote:
“I very much worry the Obama administration is willing to accept a nuclear Iran, that's why there's this extraordinary pressure on Israel not to attack in Iran,” Bolton told Army Radio.
That may be the real reason Washington wants to keep Jerusalem on a tight leash. Jerusalem is simply a sideshow in the drama.
We can only hope Bolton's assessment is wrong.
