Yawn: Egypt kills another African trying to escape to Israel
What might be the biggest proof of the beacon of hope that Israel provides for people for thousands of miles around this country is the number of Africans who are killed by Egyptian border guards for trying to escape into Israel. Are the Egyptians embarrassed by the fact that Israel - a country with whom they are nominally at peace - is so attractive to so many people in Africa? While Israel does not allow all those who seek to steal across our borders to stay here, we certainly do not treat them the way the Egyptians do.But the world is silent. It's not Jews who are killing these Africans, so no one cares.
Egyptian border guards have fatally shot an African man and wounded a woman trying to cross the border with Israel.But the Obama administration - headed by America's first black President - has dropped all references to democracy and human rights in its discussions with Egypt.
The two were with 13 other African migrants trying to get to Israel from south of the town of Rafah on Tuesday.
Egyptian security and hospital officials say the dead man, an Ethiopian, and the Eritrean woman, ignored warning shots. They say the other migrants gave themselves up and were detained.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorised to speak to the media.
The hypocrisy cries out for an answer. They ought to be ashamed.
