Netanyahu bows to Obama ... and to Merkel
Every other world leader is capable of telling the President of the United States where to get off. Bibi Netanyahu is not. JPost reports on Sunday that 'significant progress' has been made in the 'negotiations' over a 'settlement freeze' and that the surrender may be signed as soon as this week in London. I'm not sure why Obama's bothering - Netanyahu keeps reminding us that he hasn't issued a single building permit since taking office at the end of March. Four days before travelling to London for a meeting with American envoy George Mitchell, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu held a meeting of his inner cabinet on Thursday night in which "significant progress" was reported in negotiations with the US over a settlement freeze.With Netanyahu preparing to visit Germany next week, Netanyahu is busy bowing to the Germans too.
The ministers - Netanyahu, Defense Minister Ehud Barak, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman, Strategic Affairs Minister Moshe Ya'alon, Deputy Prime Minister Dan Meridor and Bennie Begin - were briefed on the negotiations by the prime minister's special emissary, Yitzhak Molcho, who just returned from talks in Washington.
No details of the discussions were released. One of the sticking points has been the duration of a settlement moratorium, with Israel wanting it to last six months, and the US reportedly interested in a two-year halt. Israel has reportedly expressed a willingness to halt any new settlement projects for the duration of the moratorium, but wants to continue building some 2,500 units in the large settlement blocs during this period.
"We and our partners the Americans have made very clear that we see the settlements issue as one of the biggest impediments to a two-state solution," Reuters quoted German Foreign Ministry spokesman Andreas Peschke as saying. "There must be urgent progress on the settlements to make progress on Middle East peace."Unbelievable.
While there were signs that Israel was "thinking seriously" about its policies, "we don't have any definitive movement on the settlements question yet," Peschke added.
A senior official in the Prime Minister's Office responded by reminding the German spokesman that "the current government has not issued a single tender for housing construction in the West Bank since coming into office."
By the way, wasn't Thursday night the night that Netanyahu chewed out Boogie Yaalon for his meeting with Moshe Feiglin, and didn't Netanyahu supposedly rush back from vacation for that meeting. I guess there were other reasons for Netanyahu rushing home from vacation.

disgusting and disturbing. i don't understand why israel never brought up the million jews kicked out of arab lands. fatah conference cheered mass murders and spoke of future murders. while jews and arabs can mix freely, when huckabee visited samaria, he was prohibited from entering an arab town because he had jews with him. look at the language of merkel and of obama when talking to israel, and when talking to muslims. he talks to israel like it is a step child, and to the arabs as if they misquided children he loves. netanyahu got elected cause he would stand up for israel. he has not. sick to my stomach.
After the surrender, what next? What is Israel going to get for this goodwill gesture?
