Guns don't kill people, people kill people
I found this post from Instapundit's Glenn Reynolds rather intriguing.A man — late 40s, big, with a wife and a daughter — came in with an empty holster on his belt. As he sat down at the booth next to mine, the manager came by and asked him if he’d left his gun in the car. Yes, said the man, who had a permit but thought he wasn’t allowed to carry in restaurants in Tennessee.. Well, they’ve changed the law, said the manager, and if you want to go get it that’s fine with us. It’s legal now, and I’m happy to have you carrying — if somebody tries to rob me, it’s two against one.As any of you who has been to Israel knows, you will routinely see soldiers in restaurants with automatic weapons (with the cartridges removed) as well as many people with handguns attached to their belts.
And yet, we have nowhere near the (non-terror-related) murder or crime rate that the US has.
While the title to this post may sound trite, it's usually true.

Had Jews been armed during the Holocaust, its unlikely the Nazis would have been able to carry through with their plans of mass murder. Its precisely because they were defenseless, that thousands of them could be killed every single day during World War II.
American Jews have not learned that lesson, as evidenced in their support for gun control. Israelis have - and that's why they can survive in a dangerous neighborhood.
carl,
in israel, can one carry a gun without any training?
cuz that is what occurs in america
and norman, you really think armed jews wouldve been able to stop the entire third reich, armed to the teeth...really?
would like to see what your handgun will do against a tank.
i am all for having a well trained militia...each state has one...its called the national guard
i am not for every yahoo to be able to carry...there are too many nutjobs in the states.
If one stops to think about it, the Palestinians don't kill more Jews now because Jews know how to defend themselves. If the Jews were disarmed, it would be an entirely different story. I trust someone more with a gun than I trust a fool who is helpless in the face of evil. The Jews of Europe learned that lesson far too late and they're all gone. Israeli Jews will not make the same mistake.
