There is a story of a new American oleh who comes to Israel for the first time. walking down the road one day he sees an Israeli pull out a gun and shoot a gold-chain bedecked padestrian.
he turns on the Israeli and demands to know how he could shoot the other in cold blood.
"don't worry" he's told, "that guy is an Ars, and its open season now"
2 weeks later walking down the street in Bat Yam the new oleh sees an Ars up ahead, pulls out his gun and shoots him.
immediately he is surrounded by cops and arrested.
"but I thought it was open season on Arsim now" he explains as he is being led away.
"it is" says the cop, "but this area is a nature reserve, you can't shoot them here"
I am an Orthodox Jew - some would even call me 'ultra-Orthodox.' Born in Boston, I was a corporate and securities attorney in New York City for seven years before making aliya to Israel in 1991 (I don't look it but I really am that old :-). I have been happily married to the same woman for thirty-five years, and we have eight children (bli ayin hara) ranging in age from 13 to 33 years and nine grandchildren. Four of our children are married! Before I started blogging I was a heavy contributor on a number of email lists and ran an email list called the Matzav from 2000-2004. Funny, we have this same tribe here in the States. Could they be related?
