French foreign minister Bernard Kouchner as quoted by Israeli foreign minister Avigdor Lieberman.During the cabinet meeting, trying to illustrate how the settlement issue was widely misunderstood abroad, Lieberman said that in a recent meeting with French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner, he said that his home settlement of Nokdim needed additional preschools, and was asked by Kouchner why the children there couldn't just go to study in nearby Bethlehem.On what planet does Kouchner live?

Why Jews aren't allowed to build preschools in their own community is a very good question.
This takes us back to the "outposts" question: even if you accept they are illegal and need to be uprooted, how does a handful of Jews living on hardscrabble terrain in the middle of nowhere threaten the Palestinians and why should the Israeli government expend all that effort to remove them? What is the danger they pose to any one? Its not like they've committed crimes or done anything that would be viewed as a crime anywhere else in the world.
No Carl - their real crime is being Jewish and living where they are not supposed to live. And its a national disgrace to see them evicted for no other reason than they are Jews and all the rest are invented reasons to justify the bigotry against them.
All of that ought to be jaw-dropping and it takes on added coloration when the laws are not enforced against Arabs engaged in illegal construction and building in Yesha - in which Israeli NGOs like Peace Now and the world have no interest.
I believe this is the sort of endemic ignorance and utterly idiotic thinking (or lack thereof) prevalent throughout the global diplomatic community. The TOTUS Hussein administration is particularly rife with it. It seems that Israel hasn't done a particularly good job in explaining what Israel's up against with the "Palestinians".
The preconceived ideas about this terror entity that intentionally refuses to govern itself as a civil society, rejects the very idea of statehood and lives to terrorize Israeli civilians must be dispelled in a most emphatic way.
Successive Israeli governments have been far to kind and lenient with this violent thugocracy in an effort to appease those who might (or probably not) support us. It only does Israel harm. I believe that the the current Israeli government would be wise to start a campaign to show the true ugliness, viciousness and lies of the "Palestinians".

Kouchner knows what's going on. He's intentionally being completely insensitive to the concerns of Israelis and their children.
