Proportionate or disproportionate?

Tell me if this is proportionate or disproportionate (Hat Tip: Debbie R.).
In an interview, Professor Shalom Rosenberg from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem was asked by the interviewer about the proportionality whereby only few Israelis were killed and the hundreds of Gazans that were killed; he replied in "sweetness language": "Hamas itself set this proportion. If Hamas demands to free 1000 terrorists incarcerated in Israeli jails for one Israeli soldier — Gilad Shalit — then they themselves set the "worth rate" that the life of one Israel equals to one thousand Gazans. If so, this proportionality dictates that in order to defend one Israeli soldier, we (Israel) have to attack terrorists despite the risk of killing hundreds of citizens."
Heh.

Carl - I have a good proposal. Let Israel kill the 1,000 terrorists Hamas wants and ship them to Gaza in exchange for Gilad Shalit's body. I'm sure those who love death should be delighted by the notion. I consider a more than fair exchange!

If Shalit is alive...did anyone consider this? Or did anyone consider that some of his relatives have the hope that he is alive?

Just call me Jimminy Cricket. (Cue song that contains both a moral and a lesson.)

Naftali2,

I certainly HOPE that Shalit is alive (as you probably know, I believe he is and that he was kept in the bunker underneath Shifa Hospital with the Hamas leadership during Operation Cast Lead).

I'm so glad that I & my friends are not the only ones coming up with this answer. Hopefully, it will sink in to the powers that be. Or at least, Israel should use it more often.
