Israeli 'culture' hits bottom, keeps digging

There are two indicia today of how low Israeli culture can get. One is the possibility tonight that an Israeli film will win an Oscar for best foreign language film. You might think that's a high, but it's actually a low because - surprise - the film is anti-Israel. Thankfully, I did not waste my time seeing it, but Debbie Schlussel wasted her time seeing it because she frequently reviews movies on her blog and her conclusions sound a lot like what I've heard about it here.

And it's no surprise that "Waltz With Bashir" is made by Israelis--in particular, director Ari Folman doing his best Leni Riefenstahl. Goebbels would be proud. As I've often noted on this site, the Israeli left and the Israeli movie industry make our left and our Hollywood look like centrists and moderates.

I saw in this animated piece of garbage virtually every canard that HAMAS, Hezbollah, and Israel's enemies around the world have hurled.

Jews as Nazis . . . Check.

Arabs killing Arabs, but it's the Jews' fault . . . Check.

Jews as murderers of "innocent" Muslims . . . Check.

Terrorist Muslims as innocent victims of the Jews . . . Check.

Jews as the Michael Vick's of the Middle East, killing dogs and Arabian horses . . . Check.

Israelis as porn and sex addicts . . . Check.

Israelis as drug addict slackers . . . Check (well, that part is true about the Israeli left, like the scum that made this movie).

Check, Check, Check, Check, Check.

The only thing missing from this vile celluloid exercise in the sickening are the traditional blood libels of Jews cooking Arabs and using their blood in pastries. The Israeli filmmakers--nice guys that they are--want to leave at least something as the exclusive domain of the Arab world and the Protocols of the Elders of Zion.

Read the whole thing if you want to know why many (most?) Israelis won't celebrate if this piece of trash wins our first Academy Award.

The other indicator that our 'culture' has hit rock bottom, and is finding new lows, is a visit to Israel by Sandra Bernhard (pictured at left) for the first time in ten years. Bernhard lost a gig with a Boston-based women's shelter in September over a joke she made during a performance at the Jewish Community Center in Washington DC. The 'joke' - which was part of a diatribe against Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's pro-life views - said that Bernhard's 'big black brothers' would rape Palin if she ever visited Manhattan.

But that didn't stop the Holon Women's Festival from inviting Bernhard to 'perform' this coming weekend.

Disgusting....

Did Helen Thomas look like Berhard does in that photo back when Thomas was Bernhard's age?

I know someone who 'claims' Waltz With Bashir is the best movie of the year. I did not see it after some things I heard about the film, but Schlussel's review confirmed all my suspicions about the movie. Also, given I do not trust the opinion on anything from the person who told me how great the movie was, I assumed the movie actually was the worst movie of the year, after he told me it was the best movie of the year.

Seems my suspicions were correct.

As an aside, Schlussel also was correct about Slumdog Millionaire. The movie was great, but did in fact have a scene of anti-Hindu propaganda. She is one of the few reviewers who catches these things.

As Debbie said, "high quality Osama Bin Laden" cinema. If you were looking for a professionally produced anti-Israel film, "Waltz With Bashir" would be it.

The vast majority of average Israelis reject this kind of sick garbage but the country's chattering classes seem to hate everything the Jewish State stands for. One more good reason to boycott the output of Israel's Hollywood!

Carl:
Doesn't "Paradise Now" count as Israel's first Academy Award? After all the Israeli govt. helped fund it, and the Arab Muslim who made it holds an Israeli passport.

OOPS! My bad. Disregard my comment, Carl. I just remembered that "Paradise Now" didn't win, as I celebrated on my site.

Debbie,

You're nasty, but we love you for it. Let's hope Waltz with Bashir goes the same way as Paradise Now and is equally forgotten.
