Euroweenies give Livni the finger

Israel's foreign minister, Tzipora Livni, had another bad hair day yesterday. Livni went to Brussels in a bid to persuade European foreign ministers to join the 11th hour deal she inked with former US Secretary of State Condi Clueless last Friday to work jointly to prevent arms smuggling into Gaza. But the Euroweenies could care less about the arms smuggling. They want to resolve the 'humanitarian crisis' in Gaza. You know, this 'humanitarian crisis.' The one that was there on January 14 in Gaza City:

Livni said she convinced the Europeans that having a "durable and sustainable cease-fire also means a full cessation of the smuggling of weapons" into Gaza. She said that she and the Europeans reached "an understanding" that it is important that the smuggling of weapons into Gaza be stopped.

She said she regretted the loss of civilian lives in Gaza but blamed Hamas for operating from highly populated areas. She called the war against Hamas a "war against terror, not against Palestinians."

Karel Schwarzenberg, the Czech foreign minister and the meeting's chairman, said at a joint news conference after the three-hour meeting that Livni reassured the EU that "everything will be done from the Israeli side to have an effective humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip."

British Foreign Secretary David Miliband said the talks produced a "strong" discussion at which the Europeans insisted Israel must make it possible for humanitarian aid to reach Palestinians in the stricken Gaza area.

"It's absolutely necessary to say we need to open the borders. We (the 27 EU nations) were all united in that," said French Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner.
Livni convinced the Euroweenies of nothing. They told her that they will supply 'humanitarian aid' to Gaza regardless of whether it's needed and regardless of whether the 'Palestinians' are smuggling in arms alongside it. And they expect Israel to open the borders to allow it in.

Which part of that did Livni not understand?

The Europeans of course want to score points with the Arabs at Israel's expense. If Livni thought Europe is going to protect Israel from Hamas they made it clear they'll do the exact opposite. Israel's clueless leaders never learn.
